I noticed that too when I snuck it in bed to play Mystery Dungeon a few nights ago. Clicky. Clickety. I was thinking, "How come I didn't hear this before?".

I'm back with a shiny new 3DS, yay!

I personally like the clicky buttons.
I reassures me that the buttons are still working.

Anyone else asking this question. DSiWare is picking up steam really quickly and its got me grabbing my DSi more and more. DSiWare and Touch Screen Control games such as Ninja Gaiden and Ninjatown are all I play my DSi for because I HATE the clickey buttons. Ive been playing my DS constantly even though I have a DSi, because of it. Anyone else get annoyed by it. Ive owned every Nintendo system made and I dont remember any system having this.... Ever. Why did Nintendo decide to do this after all these years?

probably not as bad as my DS Lite's buttons, I've used it so much the plastic part of d-pad falls and its makes this noise.

Hehe, yeah I get that feeling too.

I think the soft buttons are better for games where you have to click into eight directions. I think it's a bit hard to do that with the clicky buttons, but I don't mind..

My DS is so worn out but it works perfectly...... well the touch screen is a little beat out and its kinda hard to play Ouendan on the hardest difficulty but other than that it works like a charm.

I don't notice much difference... however compared to the DS Phat, the L and R buttons are much more clicky, and that's a good thing, but they aren't noticeably loud.

On an unrelated note, does anyone else here hate the fact that they replaced the volume slider with volume buttons? I liked the slider a lot more.

I like the clicky buttons. In fact, I always liked them. They make a cool sound when you push them.

Clicky clicky clicky clicky.

wont be on here anymore

I think the clicky style is better for reasons stated above. Plus, has there ever been a Nintendo handheld that didn't have clicky (or at least semi-clicky) buttons?

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

The Gameboy Micro has a pretty soft d-pad. It still works great, but it's so soft that I find the DSi's d-pad to be more reassuring that way. I honestly hadn't noticed the clicking until I read this thread -- not like I'm trying to use it during business meetings or anything!

You can't play Pop Island on a DS Lite because it's..... DSiWare...... FAIL.

Anyway, I prefer the clicky buttons, easier to press.

@slapshot82: You claim you own every nintendo system made.... Do you own a Virtual Boy?

@Vander.... yeah I actually Did own the Virtual Boy at one point way back then. I sold most of my old video games and systems way back in the day when at some point for a few years I didnt think gaming was the best because of the years I spent skating, well I still played games but just not retro. I also had quite a bit of my remaining old school collection stolen when I was in college, anyways, Ive rebought some of it, but mostly just the games, just to have. From what I can remember, the DSi has the Clickiest Buttons of All!

I kinda prefer the clicky buttons, but I'll admit that the buttons started to hurt when I overplayed Retro Game Challenge one day.

I prefer the clicky buttons. The DSPhat had clicky buttons too. I hate the many accidental deaths I make using the "squishy" Wiimote D-Pad when playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'm pretty okay.
