I'm not sure this is the best game for a 7 year old... Some of the puzzles can be rather abstract and require you to read somewhat cryptic clues.

@hoodtrix: there's Mario Kart DS if she likes MKWii, and then there's all kinds of cute non-games she as a non-gaming second-grader might like -- Nintendogs, the entire Imagine series... and if you want to try to get her into some cute actual games, there's Kirby Superstar Ultra, The Legendary Starfy, Super Princess Peach, and other milder games available for her to try. If you'd like to try and get her into older platformers, too, the DS phat and lite are both equipped with the GBA slot, so that you can find the Super Mario Advance series for her to play as well. She may like those. :3

as for IMing, you may be thinking of PictoChat. PictoChat is only able to connect to other DS systems within its range (about 65 feet, according to Nintendo), and to be completely honest, it's the most useless part of the system. However, if she's wanting to play with her friends, she may get some fun out of it. Even if she can't read or write well yet, pictochat allows you to draw and doodle pictures and send those as 'messages' to the chat room at large (or, if she prefers, there's an on-screen keyboard that will allow her to hunt-and-peck for letters to type in with her stylus and make messages that way).

All of this.

Uh oh. He's back.

Final Fantasy. That's for 7 year olds right?
But in all seriousness I would recommend Sonic Rush or New Super Mario Brothers. Both very simple platformers with next to no reading. Or if you want to kick-start the gaming bug Tetris DS. No game is more accessible or more fun than Tetris.

You can't be serious...

If she likes Diego, there is a game that my little bro had once called Diego's Dinosaur Adventure (Or somethin' like that) it was pretty good for him because Diego actually talks to the player instead of them having to read text. If you can come across a copy of Super Princess Peach, I hear that's a pretty good game for younger girls.
New Super Mario Bros. or Kirby would be good too. And like theblackdragon said, if she likes Mario Kart Wii, she would probably like Mario Kart DS, it's actually alot easier than MK Wii.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be able to read pretty well to be able to Pokemon Platinum, or ANY Pokemon game for that matter.

Girls LOVE simulation games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. Rune Factory is another one. I know because I have a little sister and cousin who like these games.

Hardly any of these would be good for a 7 yr old. Try Nintendogs or Animal Crossing. Pokemon may prove too complex and If she found Lego Star Wars hard then Phantom Hourglass is a BIG BIG BIG no-no. Although it might be risky, NSMB DS is also a suggestion from me.

pokemon pearl or dimond? or how about some dsiware games?

This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

I suggest nintendogs, and kirby games. Yoshi's island DS and Yoshi Touch and Go are pretty easy and fun. Of course, you can always just go with a Hannah Montana [shudder] or another cheezy TV show game.

Just let it happen.

nintendogs is easy to play and a good intro to games

Sorry, Pokemon WILL be too complex.

Not only would Mario Party: DS and Super Monkey Ball: Touch and Roll be good for her, they are also VERY cheap now!
Monkey Ball might be a bit hard though...

I'm working on a game that's coming out soon!

I have this same problem, as I myself am a seven-year-old girl. Being such, this thread will be of great use to myself.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

@Feenie ......umm...... If you are seven, then I suggest you get Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles! Its a fun game with lots of unicorns, and bunnies, and other fun things! Left 4 dead is also like it, they're perfect for you!

Just let it happen.

Well, I was a 7 year old girl once, and I really liked Sonic games. Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure are basically the same as the old ones I played. Stay away from Sonic Chronicles though...it's an RPG, so there would be reading. They were really hard for me then, but they were still my favorite games. New Super Mario Bros. would also be in the same category. Rhythm heaven has reading, but they also show pictures and demonstrations, so she probably wouldn't need much help after perhaps the first original instructions and getting oriented to the controls. MKDS is good too.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

So you're saying RE: Darkside features zombie unicorns and undead rabbits? Jeez, I'd buy that game no matter what age I was, but it's all the more appealing at the age of seven due to me being incredibly gullible and unable to discern truth for myself. Thanks, over_one_hundred_electrified_percentages_of_fish!

-Mario Party DS

Those are probably your best bet as to games she would like that are both fun and not too hard.
