I usually boot up Doom 2 on steam and play a map or two when I need a quick fix, ultimate short burst gameplay.
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be gradually looking into many of your suggestions as money allows. I ended up starting with Peggle Dual Shot because my wife went directly to GameStop and bought it for me after cashing a check she got for writing a speech. I love her....
Moco Loco If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.
The DS version of Tetris Party is on my radar as I think Tetris just works better as a handheld game. We used to have Tetris DS but at the time we owned it I had more time on my hands (which meant time for hardcore games, even during the week) and even my wife didn't play it much after awhile.
I rented Retro Game Challenge, but didn't like it as much as I thought I would. My favorite part was the feeling of being at your best friend's house playing a videogame...definite nostalgia factor there. The gaming magazines with the cheats were cool too.

"They say video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock n' roll."
How about the Ace Attorney series? They're not traditionally associated with "quick fix" gaming, but you can save and quit on practically any screen. Picross DS is a good option, too: you can save and quit mid-puzzle, play some "Daily Picross" challenges that last approximately one minute each, and there are enough puzzles on that tiny card that you can find a new one whenever you pull it out of your pocket. Even when you run out after five years of straight playing, you can download more for free by connecting to Wi-Fi.
If anybody wants a short burst of hardcore shooter action, though, might I suggest Bangai-O: Spirits, Treasure's excellent piece of heavily concentrated awesomeness for DS? While the sizes of the stages vary, most of them are designed to be cleared in a few minutes. Only thing is, the steep learning curve will take a lot more than that. For me, of course, it's worth every second.
