That's completely true. They should just monitor you and if you qualify, they can ask if you want to be a mod in some article's comments and they can just ping you into a mod. They have access to the website's internals, I'm sure they could just do that.
E-mails are a little much. Also, I'm sure you would make a good mod.

Anyways I think I'd be an ok mod...but at the same time I'd feel too nervous that I would screw something up. Plenty of times where I'm around when there's some major troll or spammer messing up the site though.

As for me I wouldn't know...been modding my own site and usually give users a tiny bit of extra freedom, however any conflict or fight I usually would listen on both sides of the story and see what some of the bystanders saw before making judgement.

As for experience I have four years worth from my website so I think that I would be able to handle the position. I tend to be a fair moderator that investigates both sides of arguments before handing out warnings or the dreaded ban-hammer of justice.
