Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds is coming to Nintendo Switch, albeit not a day-and-date multiplaform release. I decided to create this thread because personally I think this is huge for the Switch - a large multiplatform release that isn't a seventh-gen port coming to the Switch. Outside of DOOM, Wolfenstein and LA Noire (remake), there aren't many others to my knowledge.
Really happy with this coming to switch because bethesda doesn't want to give us fallout and these game are easier to finish when you can play portably. I have my doubts this is releasing in 2019, an early 2020 january or february would be perfect.
So long as it isn't too much later than other platforms, I can see people holding back until the Switch version launches. Then hopefully Obsidian and other big developers will continue bringing their bigger titles to Switch.
But if performance is significantly worse and price is higher like the other current-gen ports it won't hold many people back. Switch is great for first-party games and last-generation ports but for multiplatform games is often not so good. Some ports are fine like Crash Team Racing (which doesn't seem to make the most of X and Pro according to Digital Foundry) but most current-gen ports are a technical disaster on Switch and that's logical when you have to lower assets, effects and frame rate because of Switch's lack of power which is also logical because it's a hybrid console that uses Tegra X1 and the full version is optimised for Xbox One/PS4 or even Xbox One X/PS4 Pro like more recent games.
@Matthew010 I'll get it on X but I am curious to see how good the Switch port will be anyway. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4 which can produce beautiful visuals (Sea of Thieves) but it's demanding somehow, even with simpler visuals (Fortnite). It will be interesting to see what is sacrificed in the Switch port.
@BlueOcean I'm definitely interested in getting this down the line, but if I do it'll be on Switch. Sure, it would look better on the Xbox One, but in my opinion, this game would benefit from portable play.
Is there room for another in this wagon?
I’m looking forward to this, since I don’t have any other platforms now. I like the charm Obsidian brought to New Vegas

So let me get this straight - this is Fallout by old Falllout devs without the Fallout IP? i really haven't done much research into this because originally I wasn't interested. Funny how a different platform can get more people interested.
Every time I read about this game it sounds more interesting. I hope it runs well enough on the Switch, as I vastly prefer playing games on Switch to any other platform.

@Heavyarms55 I read somewhere that your choices heavily affect the story, meaning that you could end up playing the villain. It definitely sounds unique!
@Matthew010 It's from Obsidian, they've done that sort of thing before, back when they did Star Wars KOTOR 2. One of my fave games. In that game you could go full dark side and kill all the Jedi and a whole lot of innocent people.

@Heavyarms55 It's always interesting when you can "be the bad guy". Most games portray you as the "good guy", so it makes the game more interesting when you can view a story from a new perspective.
@Matthew010 I also tend to be pretty evil in Civ games. Even when I go for the science win, I often end up nuking my neighbors before I colonize Mars. Just cause.
