Topic: Should I quit collecting amiibo?

I have way too many and it's kind of cluttered up my apartment (it's a small apartment). I realized I've spent way too much money on them, and although they are nice, they really don't have much use. I wish I would have just gotten ones of characters I really care about instead of trying to get almost all of them.

It's a fun hobby but I'm almost thinking about giving many of them away because I'm a single adult, not a teenager, so it kind of is slightly embarrassing because people who see them ask me if I have children and don't get why I'm so into it.

If you have the income for them and it brings you joy, I'd say continue. If you're legitimately running out of space, you may want to take a break. At least to figure out how you can organize them

You've kind of answered your own question and regardless this is something you should decide but if you feel like the money spent and space used is too much compared to enjoyment of having them then maybe just get the special ones that mean more to you.

As much as I would love to all of the Amiibo, I just looked at buying the Amiibo needed to unlock the costumes in Mario Kart 8. Plus the two 8 bit Mario's for Mario Maker. I don't really need any more, although I may consider Duck Hunt Duo, R.O.B, and eventually Beyonetta when released.

If you enjoy them and are just concerned about people seeing them - why don't you store them on a display/shelf in a closet or something like that?

I remember I was always concerned about stuff like this when I was dating and I would hide all of my "strange" stuff from the girls I was dating. Then I met a girl that was really genuine and accepting when I started to get to know her. I decided not to hide the true me. We ended up getting married nearly 15 years ago. She still doesn't always understand the stuff I am in to, but overall she is quite accepting and cool about it.

Now for the money, space, and compulsion issues with collecting Amiibo - I would say if the hobby has become more of a burden than fun I would let them go so you can get rid of the stress. Sometimes the things we feel we love and collect can actually cause more headaches than enjoyment and you might be at that point.

Adult being ashamed of his own hobby and asking others what he should do? Hm...

If you really feel insecure about it, then just quit it. Running out of space and money is good argument to quit too.

Although people are weird that they ask the question when they see amiibo, and not all those "childish games".

I'm in a similar position and I'm thinking about stopping buying them except for the ones I really want. The main factors that are making me hesitant to continue are the cost of them, and that the Gold Mega Man amiibo isn't coming to Europe, thus meaning it's impossible for me to collect them all (this one is far too expensive for me to import since it's bundled with a region-locked game).

It's been great fun collecting them, so I'll wait and see what the next ones to be announced are and then decide whether to get them.

I have 30ish amiibos and I don't regret it

As for your question, it's up to you.

@Rexcalibr If you're really concerned about space, you could always get an amiiqo, scan in your amiibos, and then box up your figurines and set them aside.

Me however, I'll probably just hold off until I see the amiibos popping up for cheap at garage sales.

I I had a better way to store them, I'd probably keep them but I'd have to find a way.

It's really an answer that only you can come up with. All the other people here are not you and as such should not effect your final choice.

Personally I'm in my mid 30's with no children and I have a complete boxed Amiibo collection (apart from Amiibo cards). I have no plan to open them and have them all "on display" on shelving in the spare/box room.

As for people seeing them and saying "oh do you have a kid" that's something which you will always get from people, but do you really care about what they think. In life you really need to care about what you think, well until you get married and have kids.

Hmmm you're right. I've decided to keep them, since I do like them, but I'm just going to slow down on them.

I've gotten most characters I like. Aside from Ryu, there aren't many I feel like I really am excited for.

I'm married and I have around 25 Amiibo. There's no issue with it and I'd be still collecting them if I were single. I like them and I like video games. I wouldn't change my likes to suit others Space IS an issue though.

Yarn Yoshi says "No"

...but this is the only one I own. I'm not mad keen on the circular stand they all have, and the lack of articulation. They appear well made and are tempting, but so far to me they are just clutter. Whereas Yarn Yoshi is irrestible clutter. And cuddly.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
