Topic: Custom Amiibo Shelf In Progress - Thoughts?

Hey everybody. I'm in the middle of creating my own custom Amiibo shelf system. The general idea is a 3-shelf unit and each shelf will hold three Amiibo. It's LED edge-lit to a certain extent and since I plan to collect at least the SSB Amiibos, so my goal is to make all of the shelf units able to interconnect to each other as I add more Amiibos to the collection. I was curious to get some opinions. The overall design idea is set, but I've made a couple minor changes here and there as I've proceeded through the machining/fabrication stages.

Looks pretty neat so far. Is this a standalone shelf, or are you going to mount it on a wall? Does every single spot for an amiibo have a light associated with its base? I like the blue light.

It is not a standalone shelf. In the photo album I started with a single Amiibo holder just to test working with the material and to see how the LED aspect of it would work. Yesterday I made two shelves, which are slightly different. One shelf is like the single Amiibo holder except it holds 3 and the other is like is shown in the 3-Amiibo pictures in the album. I think I like this design the best so I will make a couple more shelves like that. In the end, the three shelves will be tied together by a singular vertical center brace and will be wall mountable.

That's really neat! I had and idea of building a display case for the amiibos. But me and my girlfriend agreed that we'd wait to see how many Smash Bros. figures there'll be because we're unsure if they'll do the mii fighters/mewtwo/etc. so that way we could determine how many we'd put on each shelf of the case.

That's why I decided to go the route I did. The shelves will be screwed to the central "backbone" of the shelf unit, so in theory, somebody could use one shelf, two shelves, or three shelves. In addition, the whole unit isn't going to be extremely large (~ 18"W x 5"H overall) so multiple units could be mounted on the wall in whatever way somebody wants to in order to suit their aesthetic preference. In my case, since I'm adding the LEDs and plan to have all the smash amiibos, I also plan to have the ability to "interlock" the shelf units via a small umbilical cable, which will allow for daisy-chaining the LEDs off of a single power adapter.

We'll see how it goes.

That's really awesome man, don't think I could give you any advice, it seems your creativity and abilities here are far beyond my own.
