@DefHalan: That strategy didn't particularly work for Animal Crossing and Mario lines. I think a Skylanders/Infinity/Dimensions type game where you can't play the game without the amiibo but the game looks interesting is Nintendo's best chance of amiibo becoming massive again. Say make it the main launch title for NX or something like that.
@Grumblevolcano: I would like to see that, I just don't think it is on the cards this year. I know they are working on amiibo games, but probably nothing massive like Infinity or Skylandera. For a massive amiibo based game, we will probably have to wait for the NX. I think for the time being they need some way to keep people wanting amiibo and Zelda could be a good way to keep it going this year (with at least 1 hd remaster and 1 new game this year. Possibly adding amiibo support to Tri-Force Heroes for new figures too)
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
*The cost of an Amiibo is about 25% of the game price but it does not give you 25% more game play.
The cost of amiibo is not relative to the cost of a game. You're paying for a tangible figurine with a chip. The tangible figurine is the most expensive component of the amiibo. You're not paying for "25% more gameplay". And you are arguably getting your moneys worth as amiibo can be used with numerous games and consoles, compared to other similar figurines (e.g. Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Funkeys) that are only compatible with entries in their respective franchises.
*This 'extra' content is already in the games data and is being held back until you buy a toy.
That is the whole point of this business model. The money generated from amiibo sales is what drives the creation of additional content. If amiibo had never been made, nor would the additional content. As long as the content is complementary to the experience and not essential to getting the most out of the game (unless the game is built around amiibo use), I don't see how it's such a big deal. Amiibo have neither enhanced nor detracted from games in any significant way. In fact, I find the arbitrary use of amiibo to be rather irritating (namely in Mario Party 10).
Starfox was delayed so more Amiibo content could be added.
A baseless, and frankly ridiculous assumption. If amiibo content was the only thing holding back the release of Star Fox, then Platinum Games could have just released it anyway and patched in amiibo functionality later. Nintendo would not be stupid enough to hold back the release of a major title during the lucrative Christmas period just so that they can sell a few extra amiibo (the Falco amiibo was already released without Star Fox to complement it). It was always in Nintendo's interest to release Star Fox during the 2015 holiday period. The decision to delay Star Fox was not one that Nintendo would have taken lightly, particularly if they could risk jeopardising their reputation further with yet another poorly received major release (such as Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Devil's Third and Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival).
Porygon did nothing wrong.

I personally don't care if amiibo make it onto the NX or not. I can't see the amiibo making any meaningful contribution at this point. So far the best implementation of them is in Code name Steam. I never use the racing suits in MK8 and I don't care about them in Mario maker.
The only thing going for them is they have more potential then some of the other toys to life. amiibo have 540 bytes of data total with 256 reserved for user data. Disney Infinity toys have 320 bytes and Lego Dimensions has 180 bytes total with 128 reserved for user data. I Do not have a skylander to check. They are clearly capable of more then what we can use then for. Not like we need any user data on a splatoon amiibo. Nothing write data to them other then a nick name.
Nintendo had no plan outside of Smash and their lack of planning shows.
I like amiibos as collectible toys of characters I love and have been part of my life for years. If they also come with some extra game content, I'm not complaining.
About the quality of games... Well, I just look at what's on offer DLC/amiibo or not and if like what I get for my money I buy, otherwise I pass. I don't do a drama about it. I'm not telling Nintendo how to run their business.
