Topic: Amiibos have reduced the quality and value of games.

While the Amiibos are collectable and may be fun to play and are becoming addictive they do reduce the quality and value of games.

*The cost of an Amiibo is about 25% of the game price but it does not give you 25% more game play.

*This 'extra' content is already in the games data and is being held back until you buy a toy.

*The new Animal Crossing games were rushed out for Amiibo toy and card collectors, not gamers. Starfox was delayed so more Amiibo content could be added.

Special and Limited edition packs have nothing to do with the game they are to collect extra revenue from parents who do not play these games but have kids who would rather have the merchandise than game quality.

@Megumi: It was confirmed last year that the Falco (Smash) amiibo would have functionality in SF0

Most of the amiibo content were designed specifically for the amiibo. It amiibo didn't exist, then the extra content wouldn't have been in the games anyway. So I'm not seeing how amiibo is reducing the quality of games.

Any sources for this, or is it just nonsense?

Right. Stuff like the Splatoon challenges I could see happening without the amiibos, but stuff like the Mario Maker mystery costumes...not so much.

It's nonsense. It's more likely that they delayed it because the game needed more time and polishing, and not just because of amiibos. Also, I'm gonna go on ahead and say that I honestly think that the pricing for amiibos is somewhat fair, in that it's content in games, as well as a figurine.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Because the toy itself means nothing in the price, right?

And the toy is totally worth it imo Though honestly there should be an alternative means later.

This game doesn't exist.

This has been the case for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time for toys.

The Falco amiibo and Star Fox Zero were supposed to compliment each other because they were set to be released on the same day, but then the latter was delayed and the former was released anyway.

I think if anything SFZ will be released with that Arwing amiibo Miyamoto said they had made prototypes of.

There is no way I am able to wear a Mega Man helmet while playing Mario Kart without amiibo. Sure amiibo Festival didn't work out, but they took a creative risk with it. They are experimenting with amiibo and seeing what works. Nintendo will learn from Mario Party 10 and amiibo Festival.

But yeah, overall amiibo has been GOOD for Nintendo.

Well people spend $30-$300(?) for toy models that does nothing but look good even if it's based off a video game character. This is somewhat more productive while being low price.

This 'extra' content is already in the games data and is being held back until you buy a toy.

Yeah, that one is a tricky one depending on the game(s), amiibo and the individual's personally. The best I can say is you'll get more value from a main and well known series amiibo like Mario and Link than someone like WFT and Mii Fighter currently. Also it's helps if they have a good amount of games that support amiibo rather than one or two.

The new Animal Crossing games were rushed out for Amiibo toy and card collectors, not gamers. Starfox was delayed so more Amiibo content could be added.

…. I got nothing.

Special and Limited edition packs have nothing to do with the game they are to collect extra revenue from parents who do not play these games but have kids who would rather have the merchandise than game quality.

That one I think applies more to adults collecting for themselves than parents for kids. I seen (ok been to) enough special and limited release to know a majority of the people are young to full adults buying to collect or turn a profit.

I guess It's all about how you look at it. Nintendo toys that have a use in video games unlike the other Nintendo toys or expensive dlc that hardly adds anything to the game.

A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

A fair amount of the Amiibo I have I haven't even scanned! It's pretty much all about the figurines for me. I got the Shovel Knight Amiibo a week or so ago. It actually has some cool extras..... I've only scanned it once.

I'm really hoping they go beyond the whole "unlock outfits for your Miis" or "train NPCs" crap and actually let us play as the Amiibo characters we have in a game of some sort. They could do the Infinity concept and make it so there is an actual game with it, not just the sandbox thing.

Games have become devalued for awhile now. DLC models and F2P truly standout so amiibo is not alone in this. I missed the days when you could get the complete package for around 50 bucks, no strings.

I also want a source that confirms Star Fox's delay being due to amiibo integration.

Amiibo is great but I feel like the hype behind it is slowly fizzling out.

@Rexcalibr: Well Smash is coming to a close, in February Smash 4 will be fully complete and then sometime later in the year the final DLC characters will have their amiibo.

They just need to find a new series or new game to base Amiibo around. This year, I could see new Zelda Amiibo being released, and Wolf Link would be the start of that. Maybe from now on each franchise could become the franchise of the year and get a new series of amiibo. Just a thought lol

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
