Topic: When will the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles merge?

Posts 1 to 20 of 20

I have purchased about 30 games for the Wii U Virtual Console and just recently bought a 3DS XL. I would love to have access to some of those same Wii U games on my 3DS, but I refuse to pay for the same game twice on what is essentially the same platform. I know the long-rumored unified account system is "hopefully" still in the works, but does anyone have any idea when a merging of Virtual Console titles might take place?

just a nintendo gamer on a nintendo related site (who wouldve seen that one coming?)
the random user name randomly became a Pikachu.

One day it will because... if you have a 3DS and click on Wish List when you go on Eshop... there is now a "Wii U wish list" icon.... So one day they will be merged.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I don't see this happening with the Wii U and 3DS. The Nintendo Network system and all the connectivity Nintendo has created are really messy.

With the next gen, maybe.

Well we all know they are working on it since they introduced the Nintendo Network ID process so that you can combine money amounts from your 3DS and Wii U accounts and ultimately make them into a completely unified account system. But first, they need to beef up their servers so they can handle more traffic without their systems crashing.

Proud owner of a Switch, Wii U, Wii and 3DS.

Ask me about the games I own :) I am looking to add friends on the Switch and Wii U.

I'm thinking just like those beloved GBA games that we all want on the VC, most likely next generation of systems.

Nintendo don't see them as the same platform. You pay to play a game on Wii, you can only play it on the Wii.

I'm not entitled to have a free DVD for movies I already own on VHS. Its just like that.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Never cause Nintendo are greedy and know some people will double dip.

I have stopped buying VC games on 3DS (with the exception of Game Gear) for this very reason.
I think Ninty are milking the VC, and drip feeding it at the same time

I have stopped buying VC games on Wii U (with the exception of a $2 sale or less) for this very reason. The 3DS and Wii U Virtual Consoles will probably merge near the end of this gaming generation... so when the DSR comes out in 2017 and the NMGS (Nintendo Mega Gaming System) comes out in 2018, they'll start it all over again. The 3DS and Wii U Virtual Consoles may merge, but you may still have to purchase the games twice...

What I want to know is why then have they put Super Mario Bros 3 at the same price on both (At least temporarily).

Normally NES games are more expensive on 3DS.

This is why I buy Home Console VC games on my Wii U and Portable VC games on my 3DS, never double dip and if they merge then I will have a gaint collection. My only worry is when GBA games come out on Wii U but not 3DS

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

CrazyOtto

I don't think they'll merge until Nintendo's 9th gen systems.

Why should I have to pay extra for a blu-ray copy of a DVD I already own?

That is not the same. That would be akin to saying I own the Gamecube Windwaker so I am entitled to a copy of the Wii U version.

With a DVD as far as I know you can do what you like with it in terms of creating other formats from it. Same thing doesn't apply to Bluray which is nonsense.

You can legally dump a cart with e.g a retrode to (Or extract the NES games from the Gamecube Animal Crossing) with the specific exemption for backing up. Not sure about extracting from the Wii or not as it has not been tested whether it is trivially breakable or not. (The DVD encryption was classified as such).
