By this, I mean one that doesn't need a screen protector for lawd sake. I've had my smartphone nearly 5 years, and not a scratch on that beautiful screen, and no protector, either. I'm so sick and tired of goofing around with screen protectors after my DSi, 3DSXL, and WiiU gamepad. My OCD can't take another faulty application with bubbles, and I would like to not have to waste money on 3 protectors, knowing full well the first two will be horribly applied by me. Also, it would be nice to finally be HD, at least 720p, I mean cmon Nintendo. Beautiful, vibrant colors. DO IT.
I think they will be probably too cheap to use the best technology available at the time. (Project Phire maybe ?)
Yeah, but the lowest scale HD screen isn't the best technology. I know, I know, Nintendo walks the path of withered technology set down by Gunpei, but cmon....it's time. Smartphone screens of this kinda have been around long enough to be cheap, by now.
PLEASE. Think of my OCD.
Atari 2600, Commodore 64/128, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, PC, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Wii, PSP, DSi, PS3, 3DSXL, WiiU
I've never scratched my phone, but then, I've never scratched any of my DSs, 3DSs, PSPs, Vita, or Gamepad either. I guess I'm just evolved enough to use them with my hands instead of sticks and rocks.
3DS successor will be 480-540p. It needs to be cost effective, both for developers and consumers, and have great battery life. The reason why the 3DS gets so many more games than the Vita isn't just because there's more users. It's because it costs far less to develop for 3DS.
Also, OCD is a serious condition. Please don't diagnose yourself with it because you get annoyed by disorder.

Can you be more passive aggressive?

Of course he can't, that would just be regular agressive.
It depends on what Nintendo wants to do with it. If Nintendo wants to prioritize stylus use, then they need a Resistive screen. Capacitive styluses are large, and wouldn't be conducive to fit in a handheld.
Given Nintendo's interest in building a unified handheld-console ecosystem, I think it's also likely the next system will be HD. Nintendo will need to be able to scale games back and forth, and that would be difficult if the handheld was only 480-540p.

What's difficult about scaling from 1080p to 540p?

Wow, that was poorly phrased on my part. Anyway, what I mean is that it's obviously easier to scale from 1080p to 720p than it would be from 1080p to 540p. From a pure pixel standpoint, you have to downscale more, so you lose more information. Then there's simply the element of an engine being built around a higher resolution needing to be scaled down more as well (though I'm not a software developer, so I don't know what that entails).

The good news is that modern engines are often highly scalable. They offer optimization settings for a wide range of specs and can easily move up and down the scale as needed. I'm not a dev either, but my understanding is that Unreal is one such highly scalable engine.

HDS (actually if it's called this, I'll groan)
I could not agree more.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

Unreal Engine 4 does have pretty good scalability. in addition to the engine having built in settings for shadows, lighting, draw distance, texture quality and what not, it can also be scaled down for different platforms with the lowest being OpenGL ES 2.0 meaning it can compile games for smart devices from around 2009 and up, although that requires drastic sacrifices in features like particles and certain texture features. in case anyone`s wondering, Unreal cant run on 3DS because it only supports OpenGL ES1.1. however, the Wii U can in theory run Unreal Engine 4 if it only had a powerPC compiler
