A better internet browser, definitely. Maybe one that wouldn't crash ever 10 minutes.

• Fullscreen and colour options (like Game Gear) for GB VC
• Flash and Youtube
• Add some sort of option to the friends list where you can say random annoying stuff while someone is trying to play a game just to be a jerk in general
• The ability to electrocute or slap anyone that sends a lame swapnote
• A button that gives me the power to download all the ambassador and Japanese VC games now without having to wait 10 years

-Measure heart rate, pulse, blood pressure
-Track pace and distance when running
-Notify when really hot women are near
-Dishwasher
-Automatically navigate my car so I snooze on long drives
-Send me back in time to last Tuesday so I can pay my phone bill on time

Being able to delete notifications would be nice. I have like 20 notificarions from Swapnote that I can't delete.

User accounts and weekly discounts for eshop games.

-Being able to choose the Travelling Hero's color in Find Mii.

What's the problem with notifications? Just leave it there and ignore it...

Not possible since those tabs are built into the 3DS' OS and I'm pretty sure you can't change a system's OS with a firmware/software update.

Instant Messaging, louder music on the 3DS Sound application, YouTube app, Where when you play DS and DSIWare games you don't appear offline (I hate that for some reason).

A video editing software to make funny edits to your 3D Videos, and I Would say folders but we already got that =P

a message system, at least for friends
voice chat, with friends, in game

The firmware IS its OS. I think Swapnote is a little bit too complicated for that though given the restrictions they'd have on those multitasking apps. Same goes for people wanting flash in the internet app, I wouldn't hold my breath.

When talking about updates most people assume that one is talking about changing and updates its at a OS level.

The ability to gift (like the wii)
Ability to change the color of the GBC (like the game gear)

That's all the 3DS needs for now... No need for it to have a youtube app (Why on earth would it be needed on an Video game system?)
