I have never been able to get very far without using a guide - just needed one to find din's fire to get into the Shadow temple.

The temples are the best bits though! It's all about exploring, so it's fine to feel a little disorientated at first - that's kind of the point of them.

Misfortune subdues small minds.

well, there are those lamo shiekah stones that show you what to do in the temple of time and next to links house, but only lamos use those so just go the old fashion way and look at the big overworld map and wherever you see glowing blue spots then theres something to do there...

Out of every time I've ever been to gamestop I've only seen one man eat a pair of pants.

Ew. The great fairy that gives you the magic bar in the first place tells you where to get dins fire, I guess its just a case of actually reading what everyone says to you.

Just read what everyone tells you, especially Navi, she gives you some helpful hints... even ones telling you to have a break lol.

Ocarina of Time's temples/dungeons are by far the best in the whole series, except for maybe the Water Temple, navigating that mess of a temple is like having an iron boot kick in the balls. D: It has got slightly easier with the touch screen controls, but it's still pretty annoying.

All you have to do in OoT is read and explore, that's all you need really.

If you are not sure where to go you can also look for a walkthough on a site like www.gamefaqs.com.

To be honest I dont know what you are asking but there really isnt any exact directions on where to go in the game. Navi will give you hints as what you should do next and some people in towns and such will also give hints. (One of the biggest rules with Zelda games is talk to everyone) but its all up to you where to go. The temples can be done in any order pretty much. You might run into a spot where you might need a certain item from one dungeon to complete another dungeon but I really so far havent found that to be the case, I have finished the game once but that was years ago so I could be mistaken.

Anyway as stated talk to everyone and if you really get stuck just check out Gamefaqs.com. Also I am not sure but if there is one out for OoT but you can see if your local bookstore or videogame store has a strategy guide available as well (Lucky for me I still have my guides from when I bought the game on the N64 ).

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I'll try and answer in a way that you won't need to use a guide.

If you're having trouble orienting yourself in a dungeon, remember, you can L target and that will center your camera. There's also a way to switch to first person view to look around (don't know what it is on the 3DS, but it will be in the manual). Look around everywhere. Anywhere that's not a completely solid/intact wall may hold a secret.

Look for the dungeon maps. Once you find it, be sure you explore every room. If there's a room you just can't get to, find out where the entrance is and make a note of what's blocking you and continue on to beat the boss. You will probably find an item you need to get into that room later in the game (there's usually hidden things like skultulas).

In the overworld, listen to Navi. She will give you hints about where to go next. If where she's sending you seems silly, do it anyways. You will need to use what you learn at that place to get to the next dungeon somehow.

Make sure you read what the NPC's have to say to you too, especially after a dungeon or big event they will tell you which dungeon/event you will have to tackle next. If you're stuck on something in the overworld, speak to people nearby, and you may get a small hint.

Hope that helps. Speak to everyone, explore everywhere, and use the different camera modes to thoroughly examine your surroundings. With enough patience, you shouldn't need a guide.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Yep.Great advice by @Token_Girl. Listening to what the NPC's say is key.And now there is the handy Game Notes function (on the Home screen if you didn't know) so you can note anything of interest down for later. oh and L-Targeting is your friend

What's this bit for again?

Mandoble

OOT is really outstanding is most aspects including the orientation one. Once you have finished a temple, take a minute to find out how small it is. With so small spaces and dungeons they were able to create that special atmosphere where your first impression is that you are always lost. The very same did happen with Majora's mask.

Mandoble

Chris720

@Mandoble I think that is the one most special atmosphere that makes Zelda so appealing, the dungeons/temples can be absolutely tiny or absolutely massive, but yet you will always find yourself either stuck or completely lost. It's that sense of "loneliness" when going around them that makes it so incredible.

I think the best for dungeons/temples is probably Ocarina of Time, the level design is amazing, except for maybe the Water Temple, I used to get so lost in that one it was ridiculous. Also, playing through this again, it feels as if Nintendo tried to bring back Ocarina of Time through Twilight Princess a little. Not exactly, obviously... But it did steal a few bosses from OoT along with a few elements from the game, even the Water Temple in TP is based around OoT's having a singular main room directing H2O around a massive dungeon.
