Well this is my first post here. My fiancee's DSi has the common issue of the L and R shoulder buttons no longer working making my only game I played (Okamiden) impossible to play. I tried all the tricks but no luck fixing it, I actually made it worse, so I gave up and bought myself a New 3DS XL when I found it on sale for $170. I was going to wait and get a Switch but I think I'll hold off to see if more games can come onboard for it. Anyways I'm loving this New 3DS but am trying to come up with a wishlist of games for me to buy over time.
I have zero interest in racing games, fighting games (like Street Fighter), retro games, Mario, Luigi, Pokemon, etc. I'm in no way trying to put them down, different people just have different tastes and from what I've seen I'm not interested in their style of games. If you think you can prove me wrong then cool give it a try! I would try a Legend of Zelda or Kingdom Hearts game if there's a demo, I haven't looked yet. These two game series' I've never really played so I don't know where to start or if I'll like them, but will try them sooner or later.
I think I'd say a game just needs to have a good/great story to it and needs to have at least "okay" visuals (like... original PSP), am not expecting PC graphics out of a 3DS.
I'm used to PC gaming and have a decently beefy gaming laptop so I can crank up the visuals on everything. I like open world stuff, post-apocalyptic, shooters, etc. Puzzles are great too though, just not my top pick. I love Okami/Okamiden but that's the only Nintendo console game I know I like. For PC gaming I have Fallout 3, NV, and 4, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Minecraft, the full Roller Coaster Tycoon series, full Far Cry series, all Half-Life games, Transistor (huge fave of mine right now), The Talos Principle, Watch_Dogs, Portal 1 & 2, and well... tons tons more...

So anyways... what do YOU guys suggest?
Oh... the Monster Hunter stuff looks awesome, just discovered that... need to read up on it to figure out why I'm paired with two hilarious cat-like creatures...

I think Kid Icarus Uprising is a save bet for you, and if you love Okami, you'll love Ocarina of Time.
Also, check out Dragon Quest VIII. Great story, huge game and very good graphics for the system.

What about Resident Evil Revelations? Don't know if survival horror is your thing, but it's easily one of the best looking 3DS games. I've enjoyed it very much. It's a good match for the New 3ds, as you have the C stick for camera control. It's very cheap too.

They are both Nintendo games, but I'd recommend Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem Awakening.

The former is an RPG that plays a lot like an MMO. It's probably the most open world you'll find on the 3DS.

The latter is a tactical RPG with fairly wide appeal.

At least 2'8".

That game looks awesome, I'll definitely be getting that. It kinda reminds me of Dead Space, which is another one of my favorites.
