Topic: Some 2DS Questions...

Sooooo, I have a few questions about the upcoming Nintendo handheld. I've been thinking about buying a 3ds for a while now, but I've never gotten around to doing it. I own a DS, and DSi XL, so I think I know the just of it. When this was announced, I was ready to get one. But a few questions felt unanswered. I know it's been addressed already, but I'm worried how they will take on 3ds games in 2d, because I know some games either require it, or just simply make it easier. I've heard that SM3DL is much harder without the 3d, and is pretty much meant to be played in it at some instances. I know that Nintendo has said that they would fix it all, but does that mean that they are taking content right out of the game? Because I think it would seem like too much work to go over everything again to make it 100% 2D capable. Another problem that I'm slightly less worried about is the puzzles in some games that require a clam shell design to be solved, you know to fold. I think that the "sleep slider" will play a roll in this, but I can't be sure. I know that this hasn't even released yet, but if anyone could help me with these questions in any way would be appreciated.

Very few perspective puzzles use 3D in mario 3d land (even then they don't NEED it) and, yes, the slider counts as "closing" the system so any puzzle needing that will still work.

...Never heard of any game that required 3D...and with 3D Land, those rooms with the block illusions can be dealt with in 2D. There's a little spot on the floor in those rooms that alters the camera position.

When I was talking about 3d land, I wasn't saying that those rooms require 3d, I'm smart enough to know that, but rather the platforming and placement of some things in general. I read a review saying that the camera angles were awkward at times and messed up some things without 3d, suggesting that you play it in 3d most of the time.

Stereoscopic 3D "greatly improves" 3D platformers, in my opinion at least.

The stereoscopic 3D gives the games more depth and makes it easier to judge distances. There aren't any games that require it, but it a game like Super Mario 3D Land where judging distances is essential, it makes it a lot easier.

What the Capn said. If you have the money and are unsure whether you will prefer the 3D, get the 3DS, you can always turn it off if you don't like it. But if you do like it and it just doesn't look right or you get a small headache, then you just need to adjust to it. We are trained, since birth, to see video screens using only one focal point, even when seeing something that is in 3D, so when we see a 3D screen it can sometimes be jarring for the eyes and brain until they realize there is now a full range of focal points. The 3D slider allows you to ease into this, basically retrain your brain. So no worries about whether you can get use to it, you will eventually if you want to.

The biggest thing to look at is which physical design you prefer, some people have stated they actually like the shape of the 2DS better, I personally prefer the clamshell design of the 3DS. It's all about personal preferences in the end, and you will get a lot of opinions on the matter of which is better, but they're all opinions.

@KittenKoder: Yup. My first 3DS game was Mario Kart 7, I had to start with the slider about halfway up; and I eventually worked my way up to full 3D. And now that I have more 3DS games, I've realized that MK7 doesn't really have as much depth as some other games, lol.
