I loved the original, but I still own it so I don't think I need to get this if it's only a remake. We'll see when more information comes out how much is new (that article did mention a new scenario).
This is mostly disappointing. Enough of the 3d remakes Atlus and give us something new. Sure they may add some new stuff but I finally finished this like almost exactly a year ago.

@CrazedCavalier I mean, it's not terrible, but I found the music, characters, and time travel elements to be extremely underwhelming. I'm hoping they improve on it somewhat.
I have the original still sealed for the DS (I found it cheap on Amazon). I think that I will just sit on it for now and wait to see if this game gets localized (highly likely) and whether or not it ends up being a big improvement on the original. If so then I may sell my DS copy and buy the 3DS version instead.
@Frosty_09 I appreciate that they were trying to get away from anime stereotypes with the characters in these games, but their character writing just fell flat for me. They're probably the least memorable bunch of people i've ever encountered in a JRPG.
As to the time travel? I didn't like the organization of the node system, many of the subquests you needed to complete for the good ending were simply irritating to even figure out how to accomplish, and, quite honestly, I just didn't enjoy jumping between timelines, and it made me feel disconnected from whatever storyline I happened to be in.
There are aspects of the game that are servicable (the plot is fairly well-organized and the battle system is functional enough), but there's nothing about this game I enjoyed enough to make the downsides feel trivial in comparison like other games I enjoy.
I want to like it, though, and a remake feels like the perfect opportunity to give it another chance after a few years of distance.
The only reason I would get this game is for the 3d. I know that may seem sad but I'm one of those that wants to see every game in 3d. If done well I may consider getting this game.

I do really want to see more information, especially about how much content is in the new timeline. I beat the original and have always meant to go back and do all the quests I didn't do the first time in order to get the best ending, but I never have because it has been so long since I last played that I don't know if I'll remember what I'm doing and what's going on. If there is enough new content, I will definitely consider getting this. And I also agree with @Spoony_Tech I personally love the 3D in games, and if they are putting this on the 3DS instead of the Switch it better have 3D in it.
@Frosty_09 The plot is well-organized, and I also felt disconnected. One is about my evaluation of the structure of the narrative, and the other is about my emotional experience as a player. I try, as much as possible, to separate my distaste for something from my evaluation of that thing's actual quality, even if that is often a difficult task.
But yeah, I think you're right: this isn't going to be a substantially different experience from the first time I played, just a slightly more refined one. I might still get it, ignore the side-quests, and see if my tastes have changed at all. As I've said, it has been years.
This game's been on my backlog for ages, still need to finish it. I'm about 6 hours in.
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.

I think the time travel was handled quite well. Characters too.
The games shortcomings came from other areas for me.
But people constantly bringing up the chrono trigger comparison did this game NO favors, the games are NOTHING alike.... Aside from the very cosmetic aspect that time travel is in them, and implented as a mechanic (completely differently).
Its like somebody tellinme 'Hey man you like blue skittles? Check this out you're going to love it its a blue hamster! Aren't they totally almost the same thing? Blue!"
I'm pretty disappointed it's not a new entry, but the original was definitely a great experience. The new designs are a little weird, but I thought the originals were pretty strange looking so I can't say they're much better or worse to me.
As for the quality of the characters, Stoke and Rosch at least were well done. Many of the other characters were pretty simple and not well developed, especially Raini and Marco. I did like how much actual character conflict was present, but Stoke was about the only character of the main cast that really kept things interesting.
@Frosty_09 I swear, if EOMD2 gets announced for localization without a word on EOV, I'll...
Anyways, looks like neogaf thinks the game is a disgrace and total garbage because of the art style change, accusing Atlus of selling out and going so far as to insinuate that the only reason EO sells is because of otaku pandering. No, I'm not making any of this up.

@Frosty_09 I'm used to most of it, but when I saw the EO mudslinging they hit a new low (seems like EOMD2's announcement has made the series a hate target right now).
Honestly, I like both artstyles for different reasons-- if it gets localized, I'll definitely look into it.
Really, it seems like half of Atlus' output on the 3DS has just been updated ports of 3DS games (with, funnily enough, the EOU games as the only ones really qualifying as full remakes).
