By description, water bubble gives burn immunity and reduces the damage of fire attacks (so basically it resist fire like a regular water type).
What was discovered through datamining however, is there is a 3rd effect of the ability water bubble, we don't know if this is an unintended bug or just something that didn't fit in the text... but water bubble DOUBLES the power of water type attacks.
Yea... Burn immunity + Fire Resistance + Basically huge power for water moves, araquanid is looking to be extremely strong..
252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Araquanid Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 207-244 (57.9 - 68.3%) — guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Garchomp Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 145-172 (40.6 - 48.1%) — guaranteed 3HKO
This is one of my favorites:
252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Araquanid Liquidation vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 93-109 (54.3 - 63.7%) — guaranteed 2HKO
Additionally it learns entrainment so you can give other pokemon water bubble in doubles.
So basically, if its using Liquidation (A water type version of crunch basically, with the defense drop chance), its 85 * 2 = 160 due to water bubble. Then because Araquanid is Water / Bug, STAB is added.
With a choice band and rain up, liquidation does 85 * 2 (ability) * 1.5 (stab) * 1.5 (choiced) * 1.5 (rain). Math sucks so lets say its a really really big amount of damage and nothing is 3HKO'd besides water absorbers and slowbro, but this thing also gets toxic which they can't do anything about, and araquanid has 132 Special Defense meaning it can take hits all day like Azumaril.
This is the least damage Araquanid does to anything:
252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Araquanid Liquidation vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro in Rain: 107-126 (27.2 - 32%) — guaranteed 4HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Araquanid Leech Life vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 134-162 (34 - 41.2%) — guaranteed 3HKO
The bad thing is it's speed is only in the 40s and it has 70 base attack, but for a 70 base attack pokemon and still able to 2HKO skarmory thats destructive.
Also immunity to burns makes it a hard counter to scald users like crocune.. speaking of which
252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Araquanid Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune in Rain: 149-176 (36.8 - 43.5%) — guaranteed 3HKO
@MegaBeedrill Dhelmise, the ghost anchor, has a similar ability, except it's called Steelworker iirc and it works for Steel types. It's essentially a Grass/Ghost/Steel Pokémon. Nog sure of it gets the Steel resistances though, but maybe it gets a Poison immunity?
That's still fair. Its one thing to datamine, its another for some players to already have the game and be playing it strictly from a .rom. It lost nintendo so much money since players literally just downloaded the game for free. Idk why it took them until sun and moon to be this strict.
And yea, the rom files were .cia files which could be downloaded and played via homebrew.

I've already decided on a team that includes some of what I think will be my favourites as well old (or new old) friends.
Rowlet I have been firmly on Team Rowlet from the day I saw that first trailer. Sure, the Grass/Ghost typing of its final form isn't the most defensively strong, but I suspect this to be a relatively fast species capable of striking first in many battles. And the design is just really cool. I was thinking about nicknaming it Robin Hoot, but I afraid I'm not the only one to come up with that pun.
Vulpix I had to use at least one of those Alolan forms on my team. While I recently used this Pokémon on AlphaSapphire, Alola's Ice-type subspecies is so drastically different I don't mind at all. Alolan Ninetales is part Fairy as well, which is a type I've grown to really like in generation six.
Salandit Its Fire/Poison typing immediately drew my attention. It probably makes this little lizard capable of inflicting at least two types of status ailments. I am also very intrigued by its Corrosion ability, which allows Salandit to poison even its fellow Poison-types.
Grubbin This little bug evolves into Bug/Electric-type forms. Especially Electric is one of my favourite types. Its final form Vikavolt was a Pokémon I immediately decided to put on my team once I first saw it.
Yangmo-o I did like this little dinosaur-looking guy when it was first revealed, but I wasn't sold until I saw its badass Dragon/Fighting evolution. I can't wait to see how proudly it can really stand among illustrous fellow Dragons such as Dragonite, Salamence and Garchomp, but I have a good feeling about it.
Slowpoke I still needed a solid Water-type and I wanted a Pokémon eventually capable of Mega Evolution. That's why I am settling for Slowpoke. I also like having a Psychic-type on my team. With Mega Slowbro I also have a really beefy Pokémon on my team with solid defenses, so I have time to heal other party members in a tough boss fight.
I already have my in-game team ready, I may switch one of them for something else depending on how badly I need it for game progression (with the pokerides I doubt I need anything super specific)
I don't want legends in my playthrough cause I simply won't care that much for them. I'm getting sun due to the day/night thing but I really don't care for solgaleo #teamlunala
Knowing all the pokemon in the game and having an idea where to find them, I'll spoiler the unrevealed ones and be adding them to my team.
Primarina: Hands down one of the best starters TPC made. I love the majestic design and the Z-move looks fantastic. I don't really like incinaroar that much and dedcidueye is eh to me. Primarina just stands out most to me and this will be the first generation where I don't pick the grass starter.
Lurantis: One of my newest favorite pokemon. Love the design and want to use one. It may not be good competitively but I'll enjoy it in-game.
Vikavolt: I like vika's design, the wings bother me but otherwise he's pretty cool. Looking forward to getting one but I don't know for sure if I'll keep it full play through sadly.
Lycanroc: I don't know if I'll keep it full playthrough, but I think lycanroc is the new best doge out of all the dog pokemon. I like it and its fast, which is something hard to find in this generation.
Araquanid: Hands don't another one of my newest favorites, maybe most favorite pokemon entirely. This thing is hyped up so much with its ability strength, and seeing it animated in-game looks so cool. Originally when I saw the data mine sprite, I thought it'd just be another missed opportunity design, but in game, from all angle, it looks perfect. Going to take getting used to it using physical moves but I'll get over it.
Salazzle: Despite being scaley bait, I personally like the design myself and I need the coverage it offers for my team. Going to pick one of these up at some point but that depends if I'm willing to grind for a female salandit.
Honorable Mentions / Possible replacements
Dhelmise: The bronzong/Aegislash/Klinklang of this generation. I like it, looks really cool but because its so late in the game to get I doubt I'll have an empty party slot later. If vika or lycan get replaced, its by this guy.
Golisopod: Eh, idk I like it but I don't like it enough sadly. I can't say I like it enough to replace the other designs.
Alolan Ninetales: Just like Primarina, its beautiful and majestic. I'd happily fit it on my team but I don't see who I'd replace with this.
I'm picking up sun and moon tomorrow at my gamestop's midnight launch. I heard GAME stores are selling the games early but I'm not sure, don't live near one.

This is a work in progress as I've been avoiding some of the spoilers, but here's what I'm thinking:
Rowlet/Dartrix/Decidueye
(Originally I was starting with Litten, but Incineroar is kinda meh) Salandit + any potential evos Grubbin/Charjabug/Vikavolt OR Pikachu/Alolan Raichu
[Empty water slot] Pikipek + Guaranteed evos Rockruff/Lycanroc (Midday)
@MegaBeedrill The rest of the internet wont be on spoiler town by Friday night so...it's not like being the only spoiler free place around matters. Most places fail to even mention the 23rd as a release date for a third of the planet
I say do it, as a UK based site, but most of us wont be able to breathe without it being spoiled regardless. :/
