Wait, people plan their teams?! As someone who creates their team as they go along without any pre-planning, why do you guys plan your teams?
I also go along without any planning since the games are so easy, and I always at least try to catch and evolve every new Pokemon that I can anyway. But I think some people like to 'lock-in' what six they will use the entire/most of the game.
For me it's more of "I definitely want these Pokemon on my team at some point in the game because they're my favorites" but it's subject to change. Basically, "I'm hunting these six down for sure, but my team could still change"
It's also just fun to pick 6 Pokemon wether or not you actually stick with that team in the final game.
my team is just what i will mainly use. but I plan on catching every Alola region Pokemon that there is. Plus since I have four kids I will be able to get whatever version exclusives they are in Moon. My 4 year old and I are picking Sun and my older two want Moon. Honestly cannot wait for the demo to drop. It is coming on my birthday and I am so excited. lol I am a big Pokemon fan lol
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
I might just get both versions. I've never done this in the past unless I ruined one of them coughhacking but for sun and moon I feel like I'd have more enjoyment out of gen 7 if I played them both for full accessibly to version exclusives (lunaala) and a better post game experience. As well as a method of resetting which ever I don't plan to continue for the sake of soft reseting legends.

For each generation, I only catch new Pokenon my first time through.
I try and catch everything. "Gotta catch 'em all" and all that. All the mythic Pokemon being released this year has me motivated to complete the Pokedex, I even managed to acquire all the Vivillon patterns, some of which were an absolute pain to get.
@shaneoh It'll be interesting to see how many Pokémon are available in Alola and how many new Pokémon there are in general. I loved most of X and Y's new Pokémon (the 72 of them) but I felt that 450 Pokémon in the region overall was a bit overboard.

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing all the new 'mon, even the ones that are just a form difference. While X & Y did have a large number of 'mon in the Kalos Pokedex, I thought that the reduced reliance on older generations of games was a good thing.
I just hope they improve the GTS, I want to be able to filter out Legendary 'mon as well as Mythic. I'm not trading my Articuno for a Bidoof, hell, I wouldn't trade a Bidoof for a Bidoof.
For each generation, I only catch new Pokenon my first time through.
I hope there's enough dope ones for me to justify that. In X&Y, I ended up running the DLC Blaziken through the elite four, just because there were so few new pokemon.
My strategy has always been to catch every Pokémon, evolve them and put them back to PC. This way I get to try out most of the Pokémon (I've rarely use Pokémon that don't evolve) and I'm never overleveled which makes the game more fun for me. When I'm close to Pokémon League, I stop switching and keep the Pokémon that I currently have in my party until I've beaten the game. It's a shame even the Pokémon League can't offer a good challenge often even when all my Pokémon are 10 levels lower.
What are you guys hoping for in terms of post-game content? I'm really quite craving for a battle frontier again after 2 generations without one. Really hoping that it makes it in this one, finally.
The Frontier has always given me motivation to keep playing the game. And now, since I completed the pokédex already in X and AS, I will be done with the dex in this new one quite fast too. And I'm not so much into competitive play, so then I still have something to do.
We need actual post game areas to explore again, that's something that was sorely lacking in XY and ORAS. That and some kind of battle facility that's more than just the standard Tower/Subway/Maison. Luckily, the latter seems to be happening if the Backpacker in XY is any indication.
