Huh? Even if you don't think mega speed ups are worth the effort, if you have 30 of them why not allocate them to your megas? What's the rationale in not using them?

They're worthless when using a Mega Start is still a more practical (and "economical" option). Using 5 candies on Mewtwo this week only to require 5-7 turns to actually get it to Mega evolve in the Meowth stage over the weekend is absolutely pathetic. It's just not worth the effort and coins that it took to earn those five speedups when using Mega Start would have been a more practical option (and would have yielded a greater profit in the end). I'll try again with only Moves +5 this weekend and then decide whether or it's worth pursuing the stage in future without a Mega Start.

And some Pokémon like Blaziken and Swampert aren't worth giving candies to given how quickly that they evolve anyway (I once unintentionally beat the standard Meowth stage in just one turn thanks to some unintentional combos, prompting a mega-evolved Swampert to completely demolish the stage).

I guess I'm still waiting for a better Mega Pokémon to come along that would warrant using up all of my speedups. I'm curious to see what Diancie's mega ability will be considering that it is the most "elite" of all Mega Pokémon as it is the only Mew-calibre legendary with a Mega evolution, and it is possible that it may have the most impressive ability of all (I'd rather just use a Mega Start on Rayquaza rather than give him 20 hard-earned speedups).

I don't know. They just aren't readily available to the point where I can hand them out like candy (no pun intended).

@sillygostly: I asked the guy why not allocate the candies since they do have SOME value, even if he doesn't think they are worth the effort to get them. He already has the candies. I'm not saying he should try to get more...he has them just sitting there in his bank. It literally takes a second to give the candy to a Pokemon, but apparently that takes too much effort? That's what I got from his answer.

By the way, I don't use mega start on most main stages, so having an often-used Pokemon evolve faster increases my chances of S ranking a stage without spending money. So they DO have value, even if that exact value is debatable. I will say it's a hell of a lot faster training Pokemon on Ampharos' stage when Garchomp takes 10 fewer icons to evolve. So if anything it saves me time on my grinding.

I'm not arguing whether mega candies are worth the effort to get them. I'm saying it's odd to just have them sitting there going to waste since he has them anyway. Seriously, 30??? That's just weird not to use them, and the reasoning is...well, it's unreasonable.

Side note: Why are you putting a mega in the first position when grinding Meowth? The challenge of that stage is not beating it too quickly before making a coin match, so why even take the chance of evolving one? Put it in a different position. Problem solved.

I mentioned that it was unintentional and a one-off lapse in judgement. I use the stage to level up my Pokémon as well as farm for coins.

@sillygostly: I have to agree with you regarding M-Rayquaza. 20 candies!! Unless Big N starts giving them more often (or easily) then fully "canding" it is a no-no.

M-Garchomp (12 candies) is an exception, since it is very useful against 4 different types of Pokemons.

@Rikaria: Thanks for the correction. As so few Poison Pokemons appear, I really forgot about it.

Now, Nin.., I mean, Genius Sonority please start giving Mega Speedups when reaching a landmark, like every 30-40 stages (along with the jewel) and every 10 Expert Pokemons. Pretty please!!

@Rikaria:

SPOILERS ALERT!!

OK. So I'm currently at level 95. Everything has been very smooth; I just needed a Mega Attack powerup on level 50 (still, it was overkill as I finished with 17sec left), since I found that DD and Mega Startup wouldn't do any good (no big disruptions, my mega evolve pretty fast).

I was using a pretty low team of Steelix (level went from 1 to 6), Ninetales (went from 5 to 6), Ho-Oh (8) and machop (level 1-4) and managing to beat it OK (except for level 50) up until levels 91 onwards (I still used the same team and finished once with 3 sec left. That was a warning). So I switched to Charizard (maxlevel), Ho-Oh (8), Emboar (2) and Ninetales (6), usually finishing with 10 sec or so, on a 30sec time. I have a much better team but wanted to level up Emboar and Ninetales a bit.

Everything posted on Miiverse is quite accurate, so no details for the levels, except taht for levels 91-99 some ice barriers appear at the beginning covering like 10-12 blocks. So Emboar is quite handy and Steelix was dropped since Charizard or Lucario are more useful.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Defeated Kyurem on level 100 using Mega Attack and Mega Start. DD is not as useful. Finished with 5 sec left but I got a little bit distracted. Stopped at level 110. Too tired.

The stronger Pokemon for this Escalation (Tyranitar, Dalgia, Ho-Oh) are not that useful. They don't increase the damage done, no Power of 4, no Barrier Bash, and so on. So, maybe a team of not so strong Pokemon (90HP), like Emboar (Barrier Bash), Conkeldurr (last Ditch Effort), Blaziken and Infernape (Hitting Streak) are more useful of this Escalation.

I'm having a hard time getting past level 100. Already wasted a considerable amount of coinage and almost got there once but victory keeps eluding me. Any tips?

Same. Tried twice and failed. Now I'm trying to earn back the coins I've squandered and I REALLY don't want to have to use a Complexity -1 as my last two attempts were so close. I'm not sure it's worth pursuing past Level 100 as I've basically wasted a whole week on this and I'm only up to Level 100. I'd much rather make some progress with the main stages instead. I'm so conflicted.

I'm so close to getting another speedup but if I attempt Level 100 again, I'd've spent some 20000 coins for ONE speedup (factoring in Kyurem's rewards at "market value"). For that same amount, I can just use a Mega Start 8 times. And if I pursue Level 300, I'm sure that that will cost me a total of some 50000 coins (if not more)… and that's 25 Mega Starts right there… just so one or two Pokemon can Mega Evolve slightly faster than normal...

Yeah… nope.

Not worth it.

I quit.

I'm moving on.

What team did you use for level 150? I went with your Pummel team, itemless, and got ... er, pummeled myself. I only managed to shave off like 30% off its health, even though i prepared in advance and managed to level up machop (to level 6). So, I'm thinking about changing Pangoro for Machop.

@Mk_II: What team did you use? And at what level they were? I used and almost fully leveled team (3 fully leveled, one at level 6), with Mega Attack, Mega Startup (don't use DD) and +10 (just in case, not really needed).

EDIT: Beat level 150. Used M-Lucario, Dialgia, Tyrannitar and Heatran (optimized team), plus MS, DD, Mega Attack and C-1. Finished in 25 sec, so mega Start (MS) was not needed. M-Lucario is fully candied by the way.
EDIT2: Levels 191 upward are very hard. Kyurem has 20,000+HP. Managed to beat levels 191 and 192 with 2 sec left... Might need a +10 sec for the rest or a lot of hearts.

Levels 193-199 were a nightmare. Used +10 sec on all of them. Still, lost a couple of times (needed like 2-5 sec more).

Level 200:
Same team as level 150. Team fully leveled. Used DD, Mega Attack and C-1. No need for Mega Start (Lucario usually evolves in less than 4 secs). Ended with 2 sec left!! (I almost threw my 3DS XL to the floor). Might want to add +10 sec to be on the safe side.

Managed level 550 something on the Sharpedo competition. Good enough to qualify, I think.

Gonna need to grind Mewoth for a while. Very low on coins (like 25k). Definitely stopping at level 250.

TheXReturns

Phew Finally finished (with catches) all stages up to 299. Just have MegaRay left to go... I have virtually no coins left, but a fair few S ranks under my belt. Guess it's back to meowth grinding... The only stage I had to use items on to clear was Seismitoad, as the disruptions on that were annoying, but a DD will more than sort it.

A puzzle solved is its own reward.

@Rikaria: Hi, Rikaira.

So, how far have you gone with Kyurem? I decided to stop at level 250 since beating levels 201-240 required having a Reshiram (and at least, level 5 or something).

Also, where can I find Abomasnow? In the last stages added?

maceng

maceng

@Rikaria: Congrats!!
I think that I may have a chance to 300 since my Reshiram is at level 8 already. But I haven't even reach level 250 (currently sitting at 235 or something). Need to grind Meowth for a while (try to reach at least 45k coins), save a couple of jewels just in case to see if I get to level 300.

Another question: it seems like levels 281-299 are easier than levels 241-249. Is that so?

maceng

maceng

@Rikaria: Thanks for clearing that up.

24 hours later, I managed to reach 27k coins, a jewel and 16 hearts. Already on level 257. Stopped at level 250 on another 3DSXL, shooting for level 300.

I think I can squeeze 70 hearts in the following two days, plus 30 hearts from streetpassing and another jewel. 300, here I come!!

EDIT: I did some math. Plan A: stopping at level 250 for Kyurem and for the upcoming Escalation. Plan B: stopping at 300 for Kyurem and at level 200 for next Escalation.
Plan A: Total amount off Mega Speedups - 10
Plan B: Total amount of MS - 11

For both, the number of hearts used are more of less the same (I usually do not repeat levels, only for scouting).

Hit level 292 just before going to bed. Still, have enough coins (35k) to beat Kyurem. Very few hearts left (12), but tomorrow there is no work, so I might get to level 300 before lunch.

maceng

maceng

@Rikaria: I finally beat Kyurem. All items except 1.5exp. Finished with 2 sec to spare. All team maxed (Charizard, Dialgia, Tyrannitar), except for Reshiram (level 8). No need for my precious jewel.

Two questions: how do you use the spoiler banner on a post, and how do you post a picture? Klimbatize sent me an example a while ago, but i couldn't figure it out since it was referred to NL's site.
