Ok so I want to do the speed run in pirate's curse and I'm right now in the Tai tai island (the desert one) section in 32 minutes. Is that a good or a bad sign? I'm not interested in getting the world record or anything I just want to beat the game in under two hours so I can get that final wallpaper. So has anyone else got it? And did you avoid those heart squids inorder to do so? Is this something that's nearly impossible to do unless you're a pro or something?

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

This is the first game I've ever got a speed run for. I consider myself poor at them, so you definitely don't need to be a great player (although it does help that I love the game). It sounds like you're doing fine - my save point after beating the 3rd labyrinth (Tan Line) was 1:11.

Some tips:

1) Only go for Speed Run (less than two hours). The 100% Speed Run wallpaper is not yet in the game.

2) Draw rough maps of every dungeon, so that you know where every single key and Heart Squid is, plus the sections you can totally miss out.

3) Get the two keys from the secret dungeon so that you can miss out some later on. Get the higher one first, then the lower, then drop into the water.

4) You don't need all the Heart Squids, but I think it's worth picking up the earlier ones. I only started to skip them when I got to Frostbite Island's labyrinth.

5) Pirate Flares are quite expensive, but make sure you use them when you can, especially to get back from the more difficult islands, such as Mud Bog and Frostbite.

6) Obviously, this is Pirate Mode, so make sure you pick up everything necessary the first time you go to each island (such as the sword on Tan Line).

7) Know all the "bonuses" you can get, such as 100 rupees for giving Sky back her library card. After the Oubliette, you need to go back to Mud Bog and talk to Rottytops. Talk to Abner as well for a free Pirate Flare.

8) Make sure you know exactly how the cage puzzle in the Oubliette works. You only need some of the switches. Also, make sure you know the exact (slightly shortened) route through the Oubliette in order to do it smoothly.

9) Only save if you got a smooth run between save points. Same goes for bosses. Thankfully, the bosses are quite easy, so you can practice until you can get a quick defeat. Don't forget you can make two copies of your file and compare all three.

10) If you quit, then restart after saving, you will have full health.

11) Personally, I think the Frostbite Island dungeon is a good one to use you spare keys on. I would also use your Super Monster Milk on that boss (assuming you got a free one), as it's fairly time consuming to expose him.

12) Allow about 20 minutes for the final palace. There is a way to skip some of the rooms - unless you can do that (I can't), just make sure you know how to do them well.

Good luck. It's not that hard, you just need to be familiar with the game.
