I just bought a 3ds XL this last week and I have some questions about it.
1.Is keeping the game card inserted bad or good? I have one friend saying that it would damage the console while I have another friend saying that it protects is from dust.
2. Is random charging safe? As in, even though it's not on a red light yet, I am going to charge it.
3. Is it okay to play with it even though it is still charging?
That is all. Thank you.
1. keep gamecards inserted thats the smart choice. why would u want to keep a pointless gap ? handhelds are made to be ready to be played. So keep one game inside to be ready to play asap.
2. people got different opinions on this. i even talked about battery with an engineer. I personally always let my 3ds battery drown completely to red or blinking red and then recharge it when needed. but i cant say 100% what method of charging is better for battery or it doesnt make any difference at all
3. ofc its safe to play while charging. maybe backside gets abit warmer but its nice in winter when ur fingers are cold and brigther screens dont hurt right ?
1) I always keep a game card in, and nothing ever goes wrong. Plus, it saves you just having to ever take it out just for the sake of it.
2) I just tend to leave mine charging whenever I'm not using it (even when close to or even fully charged). I've had a 3DS since launch and the battery is fine.
3) Playing while charging is fine, and what I tend to always do as long as I have a charger around. It charges faster than it drains battery anyway.
Random charging, keeping it plugged, and playing while charging all put some strain on the battery. It's most noticable when you're playing on max brightness. Total battery time slowly decreases.
leaving the game on the slot is usually better(avoids dust inside the slot)
random charging and playing while you charge don't make MUCH differece(they do a little but the worst thing you can do with this kind of battery, not counting insane stuff like freezing or overheating, is leaving the battery completely discharged for a long time)

In generally, you should leave the device's battery die then recharge it fully regardless or not. A lot of engineers say this because it have to do with chemical reaction every time. Kind of an memory for battery.
As for dust part, I leave the cart in due to dust won't in the slot. If dust get in then it will stop the connectivity between the cart and console. After all it is an digital device. If the device is analog then the dust shouldn't be an problem at all or affect as much.
Digital is only on or off while analog can be in range between one value to other value.
While it's fine to play while charging, I have noticed that the touch screen on my 3DS sometimes acts a little funny while I'm charging. Like, if I draw a straight line with the charger plugged in, it looks a lot shakier than normal.
I really wouldn't charge the system while playing on it, if you haven't noticed the system tends to heat up a bit if it's being played whilst charging, it could be bad and end up with your system having shorter battery life periods between each recharge >.>
