i wanted to buy a 3ds, now the new 1 was announced. But with no release in EU.
Can i import one from japan and play EU games? I really dont want to wait and its known that stuff from japan takes a while to be released in EU.
I see absolutely no reason why they would not be region locked. You should probably just wait until it is released in Europe(unless you like importing Japanese games).
It will be region locked. Though if nintendo wants to spare my wallet and change that I won't be mad. As is my shopping schedule is JPN wiiu christmas, JPN new 3ds xl march, NA new 3ds xl november (unless they get me with a zelda bundle).

Thanks for the responses.
Very sad though.
I wouldve bought one on SSB release.
Now we have to wait while the japanese folks can play 3d without pointing their handheld straight on their faces ^^
I don't think region free is gonna do much for the run. I mean, for me in Dubai, the cost of Pal games are more expensive than NTSC games so it really doesn't do much in the long run.
Even if Nintendo did do it region free, most of the games would still be exclusive only in particular regions. Look at Dragon Quest, that series we've waited for long to get in West but Square isn't ready to do so so you might as well import games and use hacking if you want to play those games rather than requesting region free and hoping that devs release their games internationally.
@Artwark you are missing the main advantage of region free, if the console is region free you can access the eshop from any country no matter where you purchase your console...... so even if you have a pal 3DS you could buy from NA Eshop and save lots of money in comparison to paying European prices....
