Today, when i was in the friends menu, when I was online, my friend's "currently playing:" and "favorite title" info above their mii, was loading it took for ever to see what they are playing or favorite title is. Then, I when I left the friends menu and went to home menu, It took for ever to load into the home menu. Everything is slower! Why is this? Is it because my SD Card is getting full or my system is?

My system has been noticeably slowing down recently. It takes about 5-10 seconds for it to boot up or close down. Obviously, this isn't too much of a problem at the moment, but...it's getting WORSE! Oh, and going to and from the home menu is on the slow side also. Had wi-fi off, and SD is as clean as a whistle.
It happens from time to time when I goto the friend list while playing a game, but dont notice it during gameplay which is important. Only seems to lag when the Friends List is friend booting up. Cant say ive noticed it on Notifications and Game Notes so I think its a combination of Wifi-Lag and Multitasking the system. It may become an issue when trying to use the internet whilsts playing a game when we get the update but we will have to see about that when it happens.

Well now, I just experienced exactly what you described, Bigrat. o_O It seems to be a bug, since the system actually crashes instead of just lags (which was kinda inconvenient considering I was doing DOA's survival mode...).
@Sushi Waiting on the 3DS continues to be a good idea. Not necessarily for a newer model, but there are a lot of kinks that need ironing out at the moment (game selection aside).
i dont have such problems. how many freinds do you have in your list. i have about 30 i think. no lags. no problem going back to the homemenu either.
the only thing that EVERYBODY has is 5 seconds or so to boot the 3DS. and it takes 2 seconds or so to shut it down again. but i just klick on shutting it down and then i close the system
...Seems every time I start thinking about saving for a 3DS, another thing pops up that makes me think I'd rather wait for the redesign.
Sadly Nintendo said there was no point in a redesign and they weren't going to make one
They always say that. It makes people feel comfortable about buying the current version as they don't expect a redesign. They'll still do a redesign regardless, though. Was only a couple of months ago they were saying that there was still a lot of life left in the Wii. But they're announcing its successor in two day's time (which will likely be out early 2012).
Happens to me all the time. About half the time I go to the home menu my 3DS just says "Home Menu" and freezes up, but I just shut it off and turn it back on and everything is alright. My 3DS almost never turns back on when I put it in sleep mode either. But it still plays games and that's all I really need it to do.

I have about 60 people on my Friend List and I get friend list slowdown, but I have never turned my system off since purchase I just put it into sleep mode and it doesnt take long to get going when I open it back up.

I would suggest shutting your system down and give it a rest once in awhile. Even on submarines when the nuclear reactors start not working perfectly, they just completely shut them down and start them back up again and it fixes itself. Most technology needs a break once in awhile, because even in sleep mode it still is computing things. Obviously it won't fix everything - but it is good for most pieces of technology to shut them down completely somewhat often.
I only had a problem like this once when I was in school. I had the wireless on and it kept trying to connect me to the internet in the building and the connection kept coming and going. I guess my system froze from the constant change in connection. No problems with start up though.
@OrangeSmoothie I completely understand what you are saying. I think once the update has happened I will give my 3DS a break once in a while. The reason it is on all the time is because I just pop it on the cradle when im not using it and just pick up and play it whenever. I think that is also the reason why I dont have any problems picking up SpotPass content. But I do understand that even the most stable of systems need a break now and again. Thank you for reminding me of that.

this is just me but im not sure how a redesign is going to change how it functions it would still have the same features but just be slimmer though thats unlikely to happen any time soon if it did im guessing it wouldnt happen till 2 years later or longer with the wii successor probably being more of a focus
Hmm... I'm noticing the same thing, it takes 5-10 seconds for it to fully boot-up and then closing down it takes 15 seconds with the lights still showing and everything.
I don't have it on very often and play it for about 30 minutes or more but its getting slower, I booted up the friends list and it took ages to boot-up 11 friends and then when it does work, scrolling through the list can be quite slow and laggy and at times it doesn't even register what game they're playing or what their name is.
Laggy handhelds are annoying. >_<
Nintendo did state they would release a "re-design" of sorts when they can find a new way to make it smaller which means that might happen 2-3 years later, but I wouldn't be surprised seeing a re-design of the 3DS at all, Nintendo's done it with all of their handhelds.
1) I never turn off my system, and I believe that's the better way to go. It's super smooth every time from game to menu and back to game. Sleep mode is your friend, no need to power down.
2) I don't use the Friends feature, but even if I start doing so soon I would never put in 30 friends or more. That's a lot of people to track; no wonder yours is slowing down. I suppose we have different definitions of "friends"... because there aren't 30 people whom I care to monitor and see what games they're playing at all times, etc.
3) I already covered this, but zero slowdown for me, ever. It's the smoothest handheld I've ever used as far as multitasking, going in and out of the menu, etc. It seems overusing the Friends feature must be the cause of all your problems, because I use everything else (music on SD card, spot and streetpass enabled at all times, never reboot, etc).
