The last update for the new 3ds version of minecraft is releasing today. This shows that support for the system is indeed ending, and it will soon be put out to pasture.

Did anyone buy the 3ds version, and if so have you enjoyed?
Do you think that all support for 3ds is at its end?

It was nice to see the updates. Until they became just dlc additions.

I think we all knew they would not keep pushing this version all that far, I mean, there's only so much you can add to a downgraded version like this before it becomes unplayable, but it's really nice for what it is.

Not saying the 3DS is being widely supported, but minecraft doesn't really reflect the entire console as a whole.

Edit: Looks like this final update will be a good one indeed. That's good.

@MasterJay Wait, they are already dropping support for the 3DS version? That makes me wonder why they released it in the first place... So late in the system's life.

Though even without the Switch version, I'd not have picked it up, for the same reason the phone version holds zero interest to me. That game just needs a bigger screen.

@Heavyarms55 Yeah, then dropping support so early when the xbox 360 just lost support like a month ago is weird. Its makes me wonder if they know something we don't?

@MasterJay I would imagine that the game did not sell well. I mean, they released it after a Switch version, a PS Vita version, the phone version and tablet versions were all out. Had it released much earlier, perhaps around the time that the New 3DS launched, I bet it would have gone over much better.

Do keep in mind they kept supporting the vita version until the end of the console edition. They don't really seem to be type to "abandon ship" on a sinking console.

They probably just want to focus on the bedrock and Java versions.

The 3DS version simply can't really go further, it's as good as it's gonna be. Better leave it in a stable, good, full featured state, than pretend they are gonna break new ground on it.

I just checked the Nintendo UK website. Minecraft 3DS sells for £19.99, the same as the Switch version. The Switch version has more features and runs better. Even the Pocket Edition on phones is only £5. Persknally, I think this price is why the game wasn't supported.

I am not a huge fan of Minecraft but I think that the New 3DS version, obviously limited, is quite good. Yes, you can play on a smartphone but the New 3DS has physical buttons and phones don't. With the latest updates it has become a nice game, it even has Mario worlds. The New 3DS is my favourite portable to this day, I consider Switch a hybrid Wii U without backwards compatibility and free online. Actually, the only version of Minecraft I have is the New 3DS version.

It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo does anything else with the system after Kirby other than introduce new titles to the Nintendo Selects line, I think if we see anything else it’ll be a port of a Wii or GameCube game (as unlike DS or pre-N64 you wouldn’t need to completely remake the assets). Maybe Wario Land Shake It without motion controls?

@Mrtoad I would love Super Mario 64 in stereoscopic 3D. Just update a few textures and it's fine, the geometry will still look great on a small screen. It's my favourite Mario 3D game.
