Really? Yessssssssssssssssss!!
Btw, where are you getting all this info?

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

The function of the mysterious "7" item has been revealed!
http://www.mariowiki.com/Lucky_7
Apparently it's called the "lucky 7" and makes seven random items circle around your kart (like the triple shells) and you can use them one at a time.
Also someone has apparently played a new version of the demo or something:
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/28141
Quote from the article:
"Sadly, some of the oft railed against features are back as well, the blue shell in particular. This time, it travels along the ground like in the N64 version, blowing away everything in its path in pursuit of the lead driver. In its final approach, it flies up as in the more recent Kart games, dropping down in an explosion. This incarnation is especially evil. In one of my races, I was hit from behind while in third place. The first two drivers then crossed the finish line while the shell was in its airborne stage. The shell then reversed course in mid-air and came back to hit me again."
It looks like the blue shell does travel along the ground and hits everyone, BUT after it hits the person in second place it flies back into the air and hits first place with an explosion like in MKDS or MKW. So it could still be kind of annoying depending on how often it appears. But the scenario in the article sounds quite unlikely; the person who was playing must have been pretty unlucky.
HOWEVER, after watching a lot of demo gameplay videos, I noticed that players in first place got mushrooms really often (as in every 2-4 items they got a mushroom). Maybe, just maybe, Nintendo put this in intentionally to make it easier to dodge blue shells? Because in MKW you needed to either save a mushroom from a second or lower or use about 15 items to get a mushroom if you wanted to have any chance at dodging a blue shell. And then right after you got into 1st with a mushroom lightning would make you drop it...so annoying...so I also hope there won't be a lightning every 5 seconds like there was in MKW.

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

The ability to race against multiple ghosts is probably my favourite addition. Every Mario Kart game I've spent a fair amount of time trying to improve my times but, for the most part, it's been for nothing. This and the streetpass/spotpass distribution of ghost data (hopefully to my friends!) mean that people will be much, much more likely to race against and try to beat my ghost.

...... kinda makes trackmania a little bit more redundant

Adam

Multiple ghosts does seem cool. I only hope it's optional. If I want to learn from one ghost in particular, I don't want distractions.

Well I won't be turning off multiple ghosts if it's optional. It's a bit like trackmania, that whole game is purely about time-trails and when you go online (on the PC version at least) you race against multiple "live" ghosts and everyone tries to make the fastest ghost in a set amount of time. I never found that distracting and being able to see where you are in the pack at any one time is part of the fun.......

...... it's almost as fun as a live race and orders of magnitude more challenging when done right

You don't seem to fully understand what these codes are. They're passwords you'll use to enter a private race online with friends, whether you have their friend code or not.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I understand what you mean, and I agree, but like I said, if I want to learn how to match or beat a specific ghost, it'd obviously be simplest to practice with just that one ghost.

Yeah, going with Adam on this one too...I don't mind multple ghosts, but its best to race with one when you wanna try to beat it without all the other guys distracting you.

I guess that makes sense and is fair enough.....

but I'm personally super hyped about the inclusion of multi-ghost time trails
