Topic: Mario kart 7 Discussion

I know how to unlock the gold parts... I was asking if you did it the easy way (collecting coins; 10000 for the glider, 15000 for the wheels, and 20000 for the kart) or the hard way (100 streetpasses for the glider, 1-star in all cups for the wheels, and 10000VR for the kart).

deff changed up my combo, i have so much mini turbo its not even funny

Lakitu + Koopa Clown + Red Monster + Paraglider
Depending on the situation I might use roller wheels instead for absolutely unbeatable mini-turbo, but then my speed, weight, and off-road go out the window. On the other hand, roller wheels do give me far better acceleration and handling, so...

To answer SamuraiShyGuy's question, I don't really have a favorite combination. I am, however, enjoying Luigi, the Bumble V, the Sponge tires, and the Swooper glider together.

I'm playing the Lightning Cup on Grand Prix 150cc. I had previously placed 1st, 1st, 3rd, on the first three tracks. I'm on the 3rd lap of SNES Rainbow road, currently in 2nd place, with the finish line in plain sight. My point ranking placed me three points in the lead, so a second place finish on this track will be sufficient to earn me a gold trophy. I'm also dragging triple bananas behind me, so no need to worry about rouge red shells, and I just fired off my last mini-turbo. Thing looking pretty good ATM.

Out of nowhere, a Blue Spiny shell hovers over my head and blasts me to smitherines. HELLO, I'M IN SECOND-FRIKKING PLACE - NOT FIRST! I try to recover, but the damage is done, and I end up crosing the finish line in 5th place, netting a bronze trophy on the Lightning cup. No Likatu for me to unlock tonight...

I was under the assumption that the infamous blue shell only attcked first place. In the wii version of Mario Kart as well as every other prior version since MK64, the Blue Spiney would still target 1st place, even after the player had already crossed the finish line. What gives? Totally unfair!

Anybody else had a similar experience?

@StarDust: It targets the first person who hasn't finished the race in this game.

Pretty sure everyone has had a similar experience, StarDust — Radixxs is correct. Get back on that kart and try again :3

What are the requirements for 3 stars?

I am currently working on the 150cc cups, but no dice. I have 3 stars on all of the 50cc and 100cc cups, but I am not sure how I got them. In the 50cc, it would give me 3 stars just for finishing first it seemed. But 100cc wouldn't just accept that. I never figured out what, so I just tried to race perfectly. STILL 2 STARS!

I eventually got it on the 50 and 100cc, but I want to know the requirements because I don't want to just randomly keep getting it.

@kyuubikid213: If you're looking to three-star everything, concentrate on picking up coins. a good rule of thumb is that if you're able to max out your coins and snag first in every race of a given GP, you'll three-star it.

just start it over if you don't get first in one of the races (it's possible to three-star a GP with one second-place finish, but highly unlikely). if you take a low number of coins but still get first, just keep going — i don't know if the game counts coins you lose by getting hit with items or not, but i've three-starred GPs with low coin totals (like three or so) at the finish line before.

Anyone else notice that when your in 2nd-8th place the song is normal, but when your in 1st a small and steady beat starts playing?(noticed a while back) I had originally thought that steady beat would go on in every stage no matter what your place is, but I really payed attention to it and noticed it only starts when your in first.
That beat that starts playing when your in first is the only thing that gives me the need to be in first.
Don't believe me? go to any stage with cpu's (I recommend Rosalina's Ice World) and listen to the song while your in any place but first, then get in first and listen carefully.(directed only to those who haven't noticed or have, but never payed much attention to it)

@arcanum: i noticed that a while back myself — the song gets a bit richer when you're in first. i think it's a nice touch :3

I hope Nintendo fix this soon.

I was playing with randoms and one other from nl on WuHu last night and not one glitched. That might be due to the fact I joined my 3ds friends game and most were under 1300 VR.
