@Its-Mii-Will You unlock parts in a random order. Once you get 5000 coins you should have every part except the gold wheels and glider, though. So just keep collecting coins and you will eventually unlock the Pipe Frame and Soda Jet (plane) karts.

One thing I wish was in this game, and I know many may disagree, is the epic amount of bloom lighting effects that Mario Kart Wii had. Somehow that sheen it added made the game so much more vibrant. I don't mean Twilight Princess melt-your-eyeballs bloom, just a little dash here and there.

And that's my only complaint, because this game is amazing.

Should I get this game now?

No, go back in time and get it at launch.

As for drifting, the more sharper turn you take when drifting, the faster you'll get the orange sparks. Also depends on your character, body of the kart and wheels.

I love the pipe frame

The Maka Wuhu shortcut glitch is worse than I thought. Someone just did it online, and not only did they win easily, but it confused the game. Even though my rank still showed as second since they were ahead of me, a blue shell targeted me before they even crossed the finish line. Shortly afterwards, I saw red shells that should have targeted me go past and hit someone else, though maybe that's something with the game not letting you target people still reeling from a blue shell explosion.

As far as I know, Nintendo doesn't have any means of patching their games online, which would unfortunately mean we're stuck with a glitch that makes one of the better new courses awful in worldwide matches. I hope that's the only course so messed up.

Incidentally, I disconnected from the match thinking that I didn't want to lose points to a cheater... but I have no idea how VR actually works, anyway. What happens when you disconnect, and do you ever lose points or do you just not gain anything if you come in last?

@Adam I've come last before and never lost any points and have only ever gained as long as I placed 3rd, 2nd or 1st.

But I'm guessing you do lose points somehow...

...Is there a way to change your name on Mario Kart 7 without really messing with the Miis? Thought changing my name on the system itself would do it, but...guess not. xD

Question (cause I don't have the game yet) can you be in as many communities as you want? Just wondering.

I believe so. Ones that you play in are added under a "Favorites" list, while there is also a "Reccomended" list. As far as i can tell, there's no cap on the lists.

Question: How do I go faster? Even in Grand Prix all of my cars feel slow as smoke on straight aways. I'm only up to 1000 coins now if that has anything to do with it.

Check the speed stat when customizing your kart.

Plus coins help too.

My speed stat in the last Grand Prix was almost full and people could pass me going twice as fast, not using items and not using that boost you get from following someone for so long. Just feel like there's something I'm missing. The Wii version was much easier to master for sure.

It's not as obvious (at least it wasn't to me) but there's still weight classes and you'll have to use a heavy karter to get a beastly top speed. That might be your issue, josh.

I assumed a heavier weight would cause some slow down, so that could be the deal. I'll try that out over the weekend. Thanks!

I prefer high air speed over land. In my opinion, having a very fast terminal speed is pointless, seeing as you will constantly be bombarded with projectiles that reduce your speed to zero.
I only see those karts being useful in time trials, but even then I don't use them.

It also seems like weight doesn't really matter, even in the heaviest cart, you don't blast people out of the way like in the previous installments

This game has more in common with MK 64 than any other MK title. Most of the time, solid driving will win you the race.

Fricken blue shells...trying to 3 star all modes, currently on 100cc. >_>

I guess no one has ever heard of blue shell dodging eh? And if someone has a blue shell and you don't have a mushroom, just hit the brakes, let the first person to pass you take the hit, and go back to first. It's that easy.
Also I too prefer karts with good acceleration even if it means sacrificing some speed but for a different reason; I can make up the speed difference with mini-turbos but there is the added bonus of faster recovery from any type of hit. Karts with good acceleration also usually have superior handling as well.
