You think Nintendo could/would update the game with new characters? That would be awesome.

I am surprised the roster is such a big deal to everyone. It is still a lot of characters. I always have a hard time sticking to one character because they are almost all fun. Metal Mario is the only addition I don't like.
Why don't you like Metal Mario? Personally, I think he's going to be my new most played character,althoughLakitu and Shy guy are also pretty nifty.
Because he is just Mario with a power-up, and we already have Mario and power-ups in the game. It doesn't really make sense to have him as a separate character.
Lakitu also seems weird, but he's a non-unique enemy, and he is a bad guy, so even if he refs unfairly for his own kind, it's appropriate. It'd be pretty hilarious if when Lakitu falls off the track the Lakitu ref brings him back extra quickly!
I don't buy Mario Kart games expecting them to make sense, though, so it doesn't bother me that Metal Mario is in. It's just that if it were up to me, he is the only one I would prefer to see replaced. Shy Guy is definitely going to be my go-to Guy, but I will probably play as everyone every now and then, Metal Mario included.
Can't help but wonder if they ran into size constraints.
Ah well. Destructoid's Jim Sterling gave this a 5/10, basically ripping on it for being more of the same. I think that's kind of the point with this one though - some new tracks, a couple new gimmicks, and a solid online system. Hopefully now they're working on making MK8 the big next step for the series.
@pixelman That review is harsh! So it's pretty much the same as the old games, so what? Was there anything wrong with the old games? That's what I always say about Pokemon when the reviewers complained about it doing nothing different.
Every game series follows a basic formula and will always have similarities to earlier games. I noted that they gave Modern Warfare 3 a 9.5 though, despite it being literally identical to every Modern Warfare that came before it.

I keep complaining about the same thing. every review I've seen that gave a good Nintendo game a bad score was complaining about the game being basically the same thing but they give COD a good score and sure enough they don't factor in the fact that they are all almost the same.
