Mario Kart 64 is the best! EVER Wii was second! I liked it a lot, but the nostalgia of 64 just makes me like it more for some reason... That's why I love 64 retro courses
Yeah, while I definitely think MKWii's Rainbow Road is one of, if not the best in the series, it's Bowser's Castle isn't my favorite. I much prefer the DS, N64, and DD Bowser's Castles. N64 > DD > DS. (in terms of BC courses.) I also have fond memories of all 3(?) GBA Bowser's Castle courses.
I really can't wait to play Super Circuit again as an ambassador game, since i traded my cart a while back. D: I really love SC
And to everyone who seems surprised that Racoon tails are in MK7, don't be. Mario Kart games have been taking stuff from the most recent Mario game releases ever since the series started.
Super Mario Kart - Feather item from Super Mario World Mario Kart 64 - (can anyone think of an example of it for this D: ) Mario Kart Double Dash - Petey Piranha from Super Mario Sunshine Mario Kart Super Circuit - (again, can't think of one off the top of my head D: ) Mario Kart DS - started the 'retro courses' cups, possibly can be derived from the release of SM64 at DS launch, emphasisnon the DS's graphical prowess Mario Kart Wii - Rosalina and Rainbow Road both inspired by Super Mario Galaxy

Well Super Circuit has Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario in the background for Rainbow Road. Also, the GBA game was the first one to have "retro" courses, not DS.

Oh, haha, right, I forgot that you could unlock all the courses from SMK in SC. So, yeah, maybe MKDS didnt have such an obvious one, but most of them do, lol. D:
Mario Kart DS has a whole track based on Luigi's Mansion and also Super Mario Sunshine elements in Delfino Square..... and Double Dash did have Peach Beach.... and Mario Kart Wii had the Super Mushroom from New SMB...
but I don't think this is anything more than Nintendo using a whole bunch of ideas from the Mario Games before the Mario Kart they're making. How else could they make "Mario" themed levels? They have to draw ideas from somewhere.... or make brand new ones like Tick Tock Clock or Rainbow Road..
I suspect it'll be either before or after MKDS. I once thought of the original as equal to MKDS, too, but it has been too long since I've played it. Once you get out of practice, it just doesn't feel right. I bet if I had a friend over to race, my opinion would change. Versus race was the best way to play the original. Grand Prix was pretty awful, and Battle Mode is the one thing MK64 did right compared to the original.
I think the best RR is Double Dash. Does anyone remember the stars falling in the track and becoming actual stars? I think that was a nice gimmick.

Isn't Tick Tock Clock from Mario 64? It isn't all that new idea.

It was never a Mario Kart course before though.

Well, I for one can't wait to race on Wuhu Island. I actually did a runthrough of the island on Pilotwings Resort with the Cycle Glider. I'm assuming we'll be racing on the black trail, which is what Wii Fit (Plus) did when you went running.
As for Tick Tock Clock- i hope it's one of the retro courses. I actually really liked that course.
Wii is awesome! 64 is a classic, and DD is ok, but too plain for my tastes
Wow, Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road looks really boring.
Exactly, I really don't understand all the N64 praise, let alone the RR of the N64 version of Mario Kart. The only danger point is the dog, that's it. There is even a border around the track. What I liked about the SNES version and the other ones is that the lack of border makes it very easy to drop off the track. So you have to be alert constantly.

By dog, Do you mean the chain chomps? On topic, I liked the N64 version, just not as much as, DD, DS and Wii.

Haha, it's Rainbow Road — it isn't supposed to be relaxing! You're supposed to be constantly cursing the game and all who made it, at least until you've memorized the course, at which point the designers are geniuses worthy of nothing but praise.
I'm curious how the DS one can bore anyone. You have several loops, no walls, and constant speed boosts that can throw you off the side if you don't have yourself aimed well. Whether you like it or not is one thing, but I don't see how it could possibly be consider "boring," personally. It's constant excitement, whether that excitement is positive (weee, I barely stayed on the track!) or negative (&#)&! you, who put that speed boost there!).
I like to expect the final track of a game to be hard like the final boss for any other kind of game should be, and the N64 one was the only one I didn't feel delivered since the whole thing has walls and most of the time there really isn't anything going on. There are far more hazardous tracks even in earlier cups.
You know what would mkae the 64 RBR better? Remove the fences, and witness the carnage that follows.
