This was a great opportunity to tell Nintendo I wanted neither remake, I like new things, and I'm failing miserably.
fixed it for you . the petition would have been well over 50,000 by now if it weren't glitched and people ask miyamoto and aonuma about majora's mask in nearly every interview they give. clearly a lot of people want it.
I want to see new games too but i still love to replay the old games from time to time. having the option to play an improved and definitive version of a game you've loved for years is nice. if you don't want a remake then all you have to do is not buy it or play it! problem solved. it's not going to drain resources away from new games. zelda is nintendo's bread and butter. they will always release new entries on every system they make. the future of the series is not and never will be in jeopardy because of a remake, especially not when other companies are doing the bulk of the work.
as far as why other series aren't getting the same treatment... who's asking for it? majora's mask is being talked about and considered for a remake because people have fans have been begging for it for years. it nintendo were asked this persistently about any other series i'm sure they'd consider it as well.
Edit: On a final note (I know it's at the beginning, you'll all figure it out eventually) there is a difference between not having respect for a company, and hating them. I don't hate Nintendo, I dislike the path they have taken and their current direction. And I certainly don't respect their stance on re-releasing games over and over, which has become a prevailing issue this generation.
The Wii was still my first console this gen, shocking I know.

So you must have missed the news about me returning after almost two years away from the site. lol
I have a very time-consuming choice of careers and I just so happen to be in a time where I can actually relax. Which means I'm doing absolutely everything, including visiting forums for companies I'm not particularly fond of.. for a couple of reasons. (A) Not everyone here is absolutely blinded by their manifested love for Nintendo, (B) I don't have to be in love with something to share my opinion on it, and (C) there are things to discuss here non-Nintendo related with people I've actually known for a long time.

You already have this option.

Even though Nintendo has released more remakes than ever before, and there is a coincidental historical low amount of new Nintendo games..
Of course it doesn't drain resources, that would be silly. That time, money, and those developers would have been sitting on their (suggestive word for your butt) otherwise.

You haven't heard of anyone clamoring for a new Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin, etc?
Whenever they do decide to remake it, I really hope they upgrade the visuals to the max. All I know is that OoT 3D wanted to keep it all N64-like and all that. Which I'm fine with, but let's not do it with Majora's Mask, k? :3

I hope they make MM3D for two reasons: 1) I've never played MM before and would love to play it on 3DS the same way I experienced OOT for the first time, and 2) to make @AlexSays more mad.

Are you familiar with the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?
Either way, I'll leave it up to your imagination..

of course people want those games. people want nintendo to do something with every series. but i'm unaware of any focused, specific movements spanning a year or more on end clamouring for a game the way majora's mask has been.
i still don't see what the big problem is. it's not going to take very much time out of nintendo's schedule to oversee another company's remake of a game that's been done for 12 years. the original game is still great but it's showing its age clearly. it's not just about graphics, but the art style and the immersion you feel when you play it. in 2000 majora's mask was impressive enough that you didn't notice it, but today it's clear that the game fell way short of the original concept art and visual design. ocarina of time 3D managed to get much closer to the original vision and it's better than the original game because of it. i was so bored with the VC version that i didn't get past jabu-jabu, but the 3DS remake felt every bit as fun as the original game did in 1998. those little upgrades matter. they can make the game feel like a real world again instead of one big blocky, low res polygon.
i can enjoy the VC version if a remake never happens, but i'm willing to pay money for a version i'd enjoy more and nintendo is willing to make it, alongside a brand new zelda for those who aren't interested in remakes. win-win for everyone.
and i really don't know what you're talking about when you say there's a historic low of new games. the wii practically survived on 1st party titles alone. zelda, metroid, mario, sin and punishment, donkey kong all getting new games... even if the 3rd party support sucked, the only system i can remember with so many great nintendo titles is the snes. if there's a lull now it's just because nintendo is shifting development from the wii to the wii u and 3DS.
@AlexSays, with wondering why they won't make more Wii games you're kind of contradicting your original point. They don't need to make them anymore, because they can, instead move them to the Wii U directly and easily. It's kind of like the lack of DS games lately- I can only think of four big ones lately, post-3DS, and three are even lesser known(Kirby Mass Attack, Pokemon Conquest, Professor Layton 4). The Wii doesn't have an even semi-exclusive series, like Pokemon, that can release one last game, that we don't know isn't already going HD. But I've gone off topic with that, so I'll simply say, I would like to see a remake just because I never got around to buying Majora's Mask.
I'd like them to do The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask 3D after they've released a original Zelda title for the 3DS. I'd also love it if they released The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 3D Classic on the eShop as well.
It shouldn't take them a lot of time to do all three. Just let Grezzo develop Majoras Mask 3D while Nintendo EAD's Zelda team does a original Zelda title.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

I don't mind a MM remake but I wish they would add more to it other than new graphics and motion aiming. Is a fresh coat of paint really worth $40 when you can buy it on the Wiishop for about $10 not to mention since they try to make it 64 style they can't push the graphics to look as beautiful as they possibly can.

I think Nintendo would have been honestly better off releasing Ocarina AND Majora's mask on the one cartridge.
As much as I loved playing the remake (see: exact same game with motion and updated visuals), the value is nowhere near what the HD collections are getting on rival consoles. I can pay $60 AUD for Ocarina of time, or $50 for three Devil May Cry games, take your pick.
to be fair, I've not heard good things about the HD collections that aren't MGS or ICO/Shadow. But yeah, valid point. The fact that this wouldn't be one of like 500 remakes in the span of one year makes it far more tolerable and I love Majora's Mask but play a new game you silly sheep. NSMB2 doesn't count.
