Happy Friday All -

So I have a dilemma. Now that the Switch Lite is coming are you guys going to hold onto your 3DS’?

I’m torn cause some of my games are childhood fav’s, but I never play it anymore. I’m always on my Switch undocked & docked. Now w/Switch Lite I think it’ll sit even more.

My trade in value w/all my games is over $250. I don’t want to regret trading it but at the same time it just sits. Ugh. Decisions...

Funny you mention that because I thought about that to. Getting a new back-up system and keeping it in the sealed box for way down the road before they’re only on Amazon for over $500 because big box stores no longer carry them.@Morpheel

Thanks for your comment. I needed to hear someone else’s thoughts on this. I’m going to keep everything and go put a brand new back up 2DSXL system on the credit card. I have the black & turquoise which to me is the best looking. I wouldn’t mind getting a different color for the back up. I definitely don’t care for the purple one, So my only option is the white & orange...@Morpheel

It's ultimately up to you, but I'd keep it. Not only would you still have access to a stellar game library, but the backwards compatibility with the DS adds even more value in my opinion.

My OG 3DS is in excellent shape and is currently my "spare" unit. I bit the bullet this past holiday season and upgraded to a New 3DS XL when Amazon was offering SNES themed ones for $150. I've been quite pleased with my purchase.

Edit: Seems like you made your decision a few seconds beforehand.

Yup. You guys are right. I think my decision was made just by me having that guilt feeling of trading it in fear of regret down the road and it costing me a fortune to get my game collection and system back.

I love Nintendo but I don’t care what Doug Bowser said about supporting the 3DS recently. He said they’ll support it, as long as there is demand for it. We all know it’s a ticking time bomb. Once all remaining units are sold and/or have sat on store shelves too long that’s it. Poof, the era has ended. (Not counting preowned systems from GameStop or on Amazon of course)@Tyranexx

The Switch Lite announcement was like a TKO to the 3DS.

The switch can't play 3/DS games, so no, I won't be getting rid of mine.

I might even buy a backup replacement system while they're still available.

Same here. 3DS plays 3DS, DS and even GBA games. That library of games is much more important than what the Switch currently offers but the Switch Lite is a decent successor and not replacement for 3DS. I will get a Switch Lite if it doesn't have drifting issues but I will never get rid of my New 3DS.

@BlueOcean Only problem is, the GBA games are only available to 3DS ambassadors. They are not available on the eShop to buy. I remember that the 3DS sold poorly in the days before Nintendo cut the price, so very few people have the GBA games downloaded. And even then, we only got 10 of them.

I'm sure the Switch Lite won't have the drifting issues. I had no issues playing my Switch in handheld mode.

True, just 10 GBA games are available officially and for ambassadors only although they were transferable. I hope that you are right and Lite doesn't have drifting issues.

Sell it and buy a new Nintendo 3ds

Thanks for your input, but not a chance. The New 2DSXL that I have in my opinion is the best ‘3DS’ you can have. The New 3DSXL is heavier and also doesn’t have the curved shoulder buttons that the New 2DSXL has.@1UP_MARIO

@CTmatic I have the New 3DS (not XL) and THAT is the best.

👍🏻 We all have our own preferences. That’s what I like about the multiple editions. You’re definitely the first person I ever came across though that prefers the tiniest screen.@BlueOcean

I hope so too. You'll want to wait for reviews and see if people are having the issue before spending your hard-earned money on it.

Ha, ha! Well, the New 3DS has higher pixel density which is very important for such a low resolution (240p). On XL, which I had, I can see all the black spots between the pixels, so it's not as simple as "you prefer the tiniest screen" because I like big screens. Besides, it's not 3.02" like the original 3DS but 3.88" and that's the best balance between size and that pixel density. XL screen is almost 5" (4.88"), too big for a 240p resolution with big gaps between pixels. If the pixels were bigger and the gaps smaller I would like it more. Regarding ergonomics and portability the New 3DS clearly wins.

@1UP_MARIO @Morpheel Shut up, I am the only person in the world that prefers the standard New 3DS. You do not exist.

EDIT:

There is one "Iwata asks" where one of the 3DS XL developers complained about the gaps between pixels and Iwata, as always, played it down arrogantly.
