Topic: GTA: Vice City 3DS?

A day or two ago, I'd noticed a curious classification decision surface on the Australian OFLC site...

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been reclassified for an unspecified platform...

Now, there's no reason why a game should be reclassified for digital distribution surfaces such as Steam or the Xbox Live Arcade if the content is virtually identical to its original version (unless it contains new content or significant omissions). One of the conditions of the OFLC is that both 2D and 3D versions of films need to be classified separately, and if this classification does in fact refer to a 3D version of GTA:VC, then it too would also need to be issued a fresh classification.

Now this had me thinking...

What if Rockstar are planning Vice City as a launch title for the 3DS?

It makes economic sense as it would be cheaper to produce a port of an already finished game, as all they would need to do is optimise the textures for the 3DS hardware (and ensure that the game can run smoothly with the images being rendered twice simultaneously). This could eventually pave the way for future GTA titles for the 3DS if this "trial" bodes well with consumers.

This of course is merely wishful thinking on my part, but I think the speculation is valid. Or perhaps they're bringing it to the Wii to observe how a GTA title would fare on the so-called "family friendly" Wii?

Thoughts?

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

This is probably the information you're looking for,
"While the game is set for a re-release in the near future, it's not as exciting as I got to speculating before. Rockstar's re-rating is down to "back catalogue PC business", re-submitted to the Classification Board "as part of ongoing work with history products".

It's strange to be doing this - I have an Australian budget copy on the shelf in front of me, and it's already been rated - but hey, Rockstar work in mysterious ways." - Luke Plunkett, Kotaku

Vice City is the best GTA game in my opinion, I would love for it to be ported to the 3DS.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

I agree

It had a "ScarFace" type story

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

I would take any GTA game for the 3DS, port or an original game. It would be awesome.

A tad off topic but I see an open door for 3rd party devs on the 3DS.

EDIT: But for some reason I couldn't see Rockstar developing on the 3DS.

They did Chinatown Wars on DS, so there is a precedent. I doubt they'll make many games on 3DS, though.

I haven't tried it myself, but I heard the DS version of Chinatown Wars kinda stunk.

Vice City on 3DS? I hope not. An original GTA game would be more beneficial.

The DS version of Chinatown Wars is the best reviewed game because the mechanics worked out well. When the PSP tried to mimic the touch-screen mechanics with quick-time events, it fell a bit flat. The iPhone fixed it somewhat. Then again, I've seen many of my friends discourage it (by just looking at it, not playing) because it isn't in full 3D like the PSP GTA Stories franchise. (shakes head in disgust)

This is interesting indeed. I wish that Nintendo would release more "adult" games like GTA or RDR for example. Thats the main reason I bought a playstation, PS2 and an Xbox 360 for the more adult titles.

As for GTA: Vice City I agree I think it was the best in the series granted San Andres was bigger but I enjoyed Vice City alot more.

There's one thing you looked beyond and that was the sales which were terrible. I don't think they'll come back to any Nintendo handheld after such a flop. Not even the 3DS.

Yeah, that did put a downer on them. Why else did they drop the price to 10 bucks on the iPhone/iPod Touch version compared to a 35 dollar game on DS/PSP?
