I'm about to head into chapter 15 of Birthright, but I've heard you're required to get a certain character to at least A-Rank beforehand otherwise they die.
Is this true?

So my SD card died today, and I lost all of my data (I used the extra data save slots because I wanted the card saves for the true lunatic runs I would have made later)
Like whyyyyy. Ugh, I honestly don't feel like replaying Conquest again, and I was in chapter 19...
Not to mention I lost all of my birthright supports too.
Well, I suppose I should start again Conquest...

Oh that SUCKS... Sorry to hear it. Hey, download this software called Recova- it's a data recovery tool. I lost 500gb worth of digital movies on a failed external HDD once, and it recovered about 80% of them. Worth a shot!
Also, I play on the main slots, then when done with each playthrough I plan to copy to the extra slot, but do it on both my New 3DS XL and New 3DS so it's on both. If you don't have a 2nd 3DS, can always backup SD to PC too

@JaxonH: Will give it a shot, thanks, but the problem is the SD card isn't even recognized on the PC :<
I actually should have known better and should have made backups since I have access to the homebrew save data manager (which I used to import my birthright playthrough once I got the SE) and the fact that this SD was from the 2012.
In the case the SD magically works again, can the saves be copied to the PC? Are they protected from copying? I still have hopes I will somehow get them back. They are just 2 files really, one for each save slot, and each is about 150+kb.
@RR529:
I heard they just left your party, but perhaps that's how it happens lol? I also am not sure of this, but someone told me they ALSO need an A/S rank with their spouse. Can't verify cause I had done both. So not sure if that second part is actually true or not

@Gridatttack:
Yes you can copy entire contents of SD to PC, usually I just make a folder that says 3DS SD Backup.
Question though. You say you imported a save to the SE cartridge. Can you likewise export from cartridge and use in a digital copy? I never did homebrew in 3DS (only on Wii) because I never really needed to. I have flash carts and a DSi for retro games.
I would LOVE to copy my saves to digital versions because I use 2 separate 3DS (New 3DS XL for home, New 3DS XL for on the go) and have a digital copy of Birthright/Conquest on both, even though I play on my SE cartridge. Heck I'd love to copy my Awakening and MH4U save files to digital as well.
Is this possible?

@JaxonH: Yes you can. You just need access to homebrew and use any save manager available (I used svdt)
You just simply select the game when you open the homebrew app, be it installed or in the cart. It will then show the file system the game uses for saves.
In the case for FE, its pretty straight forward. Each slot has a name of chapterX. Just copy that file to the SD.
Next open the homebrew again and select the game you want to import your save. Once open, simply copy the file in the SD back to the game save data files and it's done.
Just be sure the game has been initialized, so it creates the save slots.
Dunno about MH4U, but in theory yes, you can copy the save files, and unlike the official nintendo one, you keep the progress on both sides.

The character has an A rank with my Avatar, so I should be good (may want to get that character married off too, just to be safe. I already have someone in mind for them).

Seriously, do I need that Cubic Ninja or is there another exploit now? All I care about is transferring saves tbh. And does my system have to be a certain firmware or below? And will it get patched out with the next official update? I wouldnt care if it did, as long as I could get my progress transfered over first

Couldn't do it. Needs custom firmware and can't get that from latest update.
BUT, I figured out how to transfer Fates data among ANY NUMBER OF CARTRIDGES, VERSIONS, EVEN DIGITAL COPIES!!!
Simply copy the main save data in the menu to the 1st set of "Extra Data", because that is guaranteed accessible on both the SE and single versions (provided 2nd path is unlocked as DLC).
Then just copy it from the extra data slot to a different cartridge by copy and pasting in the 1st 3 slots. Can do same for digital.
Heck ya! Now I have my 50 hour save on both 3DS digital copies, and my Birthright physical cart and Conquest physical cart, and can still keep playing on my SE.
But this is great! Now I don't need my cart with me- I can just pick up my save from digital copy then transfer it over to the SE cart when I get home.
Celebrate!

Oh I got the Ocarina hack to work and got into homebrew but no menuhax on 10.6 and no CFW.
Anyways, you don't need any folder. You can do it all from the in-game menu. The SE has 9 save slots- 3 on cartridge and 6 "Extra" saved to SD card. Basically you get 3 main, and an extra set of 3 labeled EXTRA DATA per extra path.
Just copy save data using the COPY function to the 1st EXTRA DATA save slot, and then you can insert a separate cartridge or even open digital copy and you will see your save in that 1st EXTRA DATA slot. Just copy it back to one of that game's main 3 save slots
