Topic: Favorite Kisekae?

Okay, so I've had a mild* obsession with collecting kisekae (face plates) for the N3DS over time. Anybody else? What are some of your favorites?

@Yosheel Really? They weren't that rare. We have three in our console collection.

I believe it was only available in my country as limited edition offers, maybe just once or twice via amazon. The faceplates themselves where never sold in any form outside of the ones those editions included.

@Yosheel Oh, it probably does vary by region. What country are you from?

Mexico. You can see a users country in their profile, if you’re curious.

@Yosheel Ah, okay, good to know. They were relatively common here in the US, at least for a while, but I know it can vary a lot by country and by region.

I like the Nintendo Ambassador skin plate, even though i don't have Standard New 3DS.

My preferred plates at release were the Majora's Mask set, so I got them.

But the painted finish is very susceptible to light scratches. They're the kind of scratches you only really see when you angle them properly, but given how careful I am about keeping my N3DS in a case etc, it put me off spending money on any more of the painted plates.

So now my favourites are the embossed Super Mario plates, I have the white set and the pink set. Would have got the black ones too but never found them for a reasonable price. They probably get the light scratches too, but because of the textured finish and lack of painted picture to worry about, it doesn't bother me as much.

I did also pick up the colourful Yoshis plates cos I found them really cheap. They look better in person than they do on screen.

I was also tempted by the Splatoon plates, amongst others, but it always felt a bit weird because Splatoon can't be played on the 3DS, so I've never got them.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Took a trip to Japan a few years ago and got a new 3DS there, had my eyes on a few types like some Zelda ones, Fire Emblem and Splatoon, but they were mostly out of stock unfortunately...
Maybe I’ll see what I can find when I go later this year though. At the moment I just have a Yian Kut-ku Monster Hunter one.

@Anti-Matter I really like that design too. It's honestly hard to pick favorites for me, as there are so many cool designs, but I absolutely LOVE the Hanafuda Card design, Glow-in-the-Dark Teresa (Boo), the Docomo Mario design, and the wood grain Mario ones. The Mario Maker ones are pretty cool too. We also have a couple of custom sets (one a SNES design for me, one a Pikachu design for my son). I wind up with the Hanafuda ones on my system most of the time, and he uses the Pikachu plates the most. I wish they'd make a few more designs and make them all a little more readily available. Some of the plates in my collection were pretty difficult to track down.

Btw, how did you post a picture?

@gcunit Oh, I like the Majora plates too! The colorful Yoshi ones are cute too — they feel like spring! We use cases on all of our portable systems (except the Switch), as I'm very particular about protecting them and anything can get a scratch. With all of our 3DS systems, including the N3DS, we go with clear TPU cases so we can still see designs.

I have the Ambassador New3DS bundle. It came with a white Smash Bros. one too (see below), but that's still sealed in its box, as is the charging cradle.

My Ambassador faceplate doesn't look quite so white nowadays!

[EDIT] I've just realised, looking at the Smash Bros. pic above, that the top and botom plate don't actually line up and that rather than being a portrait pic it's a landscape image cut in half. That's pretty poor Nintendo!

@zitpig I like the Smash Bros ones.

Let me see if I can include a pic of the Hanafuda plates I mentioned:

Edit: Finally got it!

And here's the Boo plates:

I have the zelda wing crest one and the FE fates one. I want the hanafuda one but I started asking myself why am I buying faceplates for a system I don't own....I'll stick with amiibo for my impulse buys.

@kirbygirl lol, I'm good. I have a Switch and two 3dsXL...I just never got the little system. The face plates was a cool idea though.
