Topic: Do people still actively trade-Pokemon

Do people still actively trade pokemon and interact on, lets say specifically Ultra Sun/Moon? I'm thinking about getting Ultra Sun because it is newer and not messed up expensive on amazon. I got a Pokémon craving after getting Lets Go Eevee and remembering Blue/Red/Yellow.

The 3DS games have the Global Trade Station (GTS) which allows you to deposit one of your Pokémon for any other Pokémon of your choosing. You also have the option to select from other criteria that you may have, such as level range as well as the sex of the Pokémon (if applicable). You cannot, however, filter GTS Pokémon by nature, shininess etc., however, shininess of any GTS-deposited Pokémon are shown, but many would be hacked (obtained via a cheating device or other means).

You can also search for any Pokémon you wish, though there are an awful lot of Pokémon seeking legendaries for their common Pokémon, so you'll probably spend some time wading through those.

The GTS was my primary method of completing my Pokédex (other than by trading Pokémon from past games).

I can't say whether the "community" as it were is particularly active, but there are enough Pokémon players out there that you'll always have somebody to trade with, even in some of the older games, and with the Ultra games being the most recent main series games (Let's Go notwithstanding) and the only game for the foreseeable future that allows all Pokémon up until that point to be obtained, I imagine that the online community will be active for quite some time yet.

@Keebs_Of_Gilead I can say with confidence that people still trade Pokemon. There is always an ebb and flow aspect. When new games come out the community gets more active and then as time goes on it fades a bit, then revs back up when more games come out. But there are totally always people looking to trade.

I find that most communities are looking to trade one of two things - Pokemon with good IVs for breeding purposes or event Pokemon.

If you're simply looking to complete the Pokedex, the GTS is generally the best way to do that. But if you offer something too generic and common, no one will trade you on GTS. No one is likely to bother trading you a Rattata for your Pidgey, for example. With GTS the way I usually do it is to get one relatively rare-ish Pokemon, like Spiritomb for example, then breed it and trade it for the rest of my Pokedex. Back in generation 4 I gave them all silly nick names too, a whole bunch of people got Spiritombs named "Bob21, Bob22, Bob23" lol

More recent games have also had wonder trade - where you offer a random Pokemon and get someone else's random in return. Often you just get random junk from route one, but a lot of people trade their competitive Pokemon leftovers or shiny hunting leftovers too. I've gotten some great Pokemon this way, lots of egg moves, good IVs and natures, even Pokemon caught in rare Pokeballs.

Just two days ago I got a “totally legit” shiny zoroark from wonder trade, and an Eevee that looks like it was iv breed. (Gen 6)

So people are still active.

Well look on the bright side, even it it isn't legit, if it went through wonder trade they hacked it in such a way that you can't actually prove it was hacked. Wonder trade blocks anything that couldn't have happened.

Maybe someone is just a jerk and traded away the shiny Zoroark that their brother spent 12 days breeding for.

Nah it’s a common thing people do, in Moon I once got a similarly level 100, perfectly trained shiny magmortar.

I guess it’s just their way to brighten someone else’s day, with a random competitive shiny.

In a similar case, in ultra moon I also wonder traded a few clones of my shiny celebi, which I caught completely legit in Crystal, and cloned with the in-game glitch.

@StableInvadeel Wait, but how did you transfer it over? When I did the Mew Glitch with the Gen 1 games, it wouldn't let me transfer the Mew. They blocked the mew but not the Celebi? Man, I am kinda salty about that now.

Well, the celebi from Crystal is a perfectly legit proper pokemon, the mew from gen 1 is a glitch.

The clones are identical to it, so there's no red flags for pokebank.

Talking about the zoroark, I checked it again and the OT is actually a url to a facebook group, and the trainer id is 12345, so yeah it's pretty hacked haha.

Super cool, thanks for all the responses. I think I will go ahead and get Ultra Sun. If there is still a (albeit small) community on Diablo 2 for instance, it would be crazy for there not to still be active players in the Pokémon communities. I like the trading concept of this, and I have picked enough up from Let's Go Eevee and Pokémon go that I have a base understanding of the whole shiny thing and the IV system. Eevee is cool for R/B/Y nostalgia, but I would like something with a little more depth to it, and maybe a bit harder (Eevee for online fighting). X and Y just sounded to easy, and I might as well jump in with something new(ish).
Super cool.

Well, all the recent pokemon games have systems in place that can make the games super easy.

It's up to you to make the game harder. For example, X and Y can be made more challenging by not using the exp share feature, and/or by having the battle mode to "set".

In the case of Let's Go, you can absolutely forgo the usage of your starter or it's unique moves that make them overpowered.

I always play on battle mode set - and that's actually been an option since the first gen I believe. It just feels like the whole "Team Rocket Grunt is about to send in Zubat, do you want to switch Pokemon?" thing is uber cheating. Never really made much sense to me.

Ah, that's a good point, I will look at my game today and change those settings around. I placed my order for Ultra Sun, so knowing anything that makes it more difficult is way more entertaining. The longer it takes, the better, but I do get that all Pokémon games are going to be inherently easy, other than completionist stuff. I’m going to make sure battle mode is “set” for sure, I agree it feels cheap. And the shared exp is not necessary for what I want the game to be like.

@Keebs_Of_Gilead If you are really looking to make it harder, you could always try doing a Nuzlocke run. It's a fan rule set. You can only catch the first Pokemon you find on each route, and any Pokemon knocked out is "dead" and you either release it, or put it in the PC until you finish or lose. You lose by allowing all your Pokemon to die. Some people have a "duplicates clause" where you can catch the second or third or however many tries needed until the encounter is something you don't already have. Most people also have the "shiny clause" where you can ignore the rules and catch any shiny Pokemon you find - some people even treat shiny Pokemon as immortal. Most people also have the rule where you have to nick name every Pokemon you catch - to make you more attached to it when it dies.

Another fun variation is the "wonderlocke" where, in the newer games with wonder trade you play Nuzlocke rules but you wondertrade every Pokemon you catch.

Woah, that sounds like craziness. I like the challenge though.

Hello guys I’m new to the 3Ds gaming community and I’m starting off with Pokémon Crystal and Pokémon soul silver and heart gold. Is there anyway to trade Pokémon from crystal ? So that I can get different Pokémon?

Rmpaul211

Eel

Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal and anything older than X and Y are strictly local-only, so you would need another system and another copy of the games to trade.

So I would need another 2ds or 3Ds with a different account to complete trading! That a toe stubber!!@StableInvadeel

Rmpaul211

@StableInvadeel that’s the issue. I’m trying to find forums or something like that to see who’s local for that. Lol. This is surprisingly hard at the age of 30 lol

Eel

@Rmpaul211 If you have children, you could get a second system “for them”.
