Topic: Changing Address

I'm actually living in Canada and planning to move in US for quite a while like for 6 months. I'm planning to change my address in my club nintendo to where I'm going. I'm using a Canada based credit card. Since there's going to be a tax difference when I move out to US, will my club nintendo be okay if I change my address? Won't the nintendo block my account because of the tax difference? Thanks for any help.

PS. I'm not sure if I'm in correct place to ask this one.

@lexxyomen - That may be something to ask NOA yourself, if you're that concerned about your CN account. I'm not sure they really check if you're paying the appropriate eShop sales tax for your IP Address, as some US users mentioned switching their location to places in the US without sales tax and AFAIK they haven't been punished with system bricking, lawsuits or things of that nature. It's probably worth asking NOA directly instead of asking people who, in all likelihood, haven't dealt with international moves and CN issues that would result.

If you're only moving for six months, why bother changing your address for Club Nintendo? Are you really going to have them send you things while you're in the US? I wouldn't risk it if i were you, lol; just wait 'til you get home to Canada. :3

That said, your Club Nintendo address has nothing to do with your eShop account. You can use your Canadian credit card to purchase games for your 3DS while you're staying in the US, the same as you can use your credit card anywhere else in the US — provided you've notified your bank of your travel plans so that they don't put a block on your card, of course. If you're worried about tax and stuff, you might have to pay US taxes for purchasing eShop games here depending on where you go or how you purchase your funds (i forget when exactly zip codes come into play, while purchasing funds or while using funds for purchasing games), but it's no different from paying county or state taxes anyplace else you visit while you're here. Your account will be fine. If you're still worried, just contact Nintendo proper.

The reason I'm changing was because of the 0% in Los Angeles(lol yeah). I'm too tempted to change my region to LA since I won't be paying 13% tax when I'm purchasing in eshop. Thinking I'll only be paying $39.99 instead of $45. I see, I thought the address in club nintendo has something to do with my eshop.

Well, I guess you can call this tax evasion lol

Again, your CN address has absolutely nothing to do with your eShop account and whether or not you're charged tax. When you purchase funds or a game via the eShop (i forget which iirc, but it's only the one time, not both), your eShop account asks you for a zip code and/or a county for where you are at that point in time, and sales tax is charged accordingly. I know you can have a different billing address for whatever card you're using and a different 'location' zip code and/or address for your eShop account with no problems; think of it like an out-of-town aunt or uncle paying for some eShop funds on a nephew's 3DS.
