Looking at getting a 2DS for the younglings. I am in Australia but am thinking about importing from the UK as a more attractive price can be had.
But – are there any implications in doing that? I assume if set up in Australia I can access the Aussie Nintendo shop and all Mii stuff etc will be OK?
I know for sure that UK games work on my 3DS, so I would assume that it would work the other way around. Your assumption about setting it up in Australia for eShop and Miiverse sounds right. As for the charger, I think you'll have to buy one or an adaptor (we have different electrical sockets downunder, don't we?).
Hopefully a more informed member will be able to provide solid confirmation.

I've had to import an Aussie copy of Scribblenauts Unmasked as it never got released in the UK and it works fine on my UK 3DS. As for the rest I've got no idea.
Importing may cause issues regarding warranty claims. Not sure if the UK warranty will be valid in Australia. Might be worth your while to check it out.
