Having recently played a friend's copy of Bomberman DS, I'm in the mood for some classic Bomberman on my beloved 3DS. I already have Generations and Hero, but I've come to find that the most recent Bomberman title available on the handheld is Bomberman Blitz.
Honestly, I find it surprising that there hasn't been a new iteration of Bomberman since DSiWare was a thing, but my concern is over the online multiplayer. Is Blitz still active in this regard, or should I just hold out for potential future titles?
Because, c'mon, the 3DS seems a perfect fit for Bomberman, and Blitz, from what I can tell, is only good for multiplayer.
I'm sure hudson went bankrupt, think someone else bought it square-enix maybe? but yeah whoever owns it seem about as enthusiastic as capcom is of megaman, also I actually quite like single player bomberman, I'd suggest the classics on VC(though that rules out online of course) over the wiiware/DSiware stuff, the newer games just felt off to me.
I'm pretty sure that Konami now own Hudson, and they said at the time that they had plans to exhaust their back catalogue although I can't confirm this 100%. Bomberman blitz is a good game but I'm sure it will be affected by the servers shutdowns for Wii and DS games that are happening this month, therefore unless you have some friends that want to play over local wireless play then I would avoid buying it.
Although it's a fun game the single player has little substance therefore If you own a Wii or WiiU then I would recommend going to the Wii Shop channel and download either Bombermand '93 or Bomberman '94. '94 is my favourite as I owned it for the Sega Mega-Drive(Mega-Bomberman) however it does have some Japanese text as it was part of the old Hanibi festivals that Nintendo threw to show off some import classics.
Bomberman is practically gone.. Konami bought Hudson two years ago and has disassembled the development teams behind Hudson's franchises. The developers of the Mario Party series moved over to Nintendo. The dev team of Bomberman is spread throughout Konami, I assume. Konami, however, has cancelled all the games in progress at Hudson at the time of the absorption of the company, a new Bomberman game was in the works. Konami has, as of today, not given any acknowledgement to the franchises it acquired from Hudson.
Nowadays if Konami owns a property not titled Metal Gear you might as well consider it dead.
