Hi there,

I have a hard copy of Link between worlds, can I back up my saves to PC?

I have googled this and it seems you can't. But then I read it was being introduced in an update for certain games... but most I've read is out of date, so not sure what's going on.

So can you? And if not, why on earth did Nintendo not allow or include this simple function? there's an SD card in there, surely you should be able to move saves to it.

Sure you can back make a copy of your save files along with everything else that's on your SD card but really the only reason I can think of doing that is if you are transferring your stuff to another 3DS. But keep in mind that the copy you put on your PC will only work in the 3DS that has your account on.

If you have the retail version of the game you can't at least not without using something like action replay....

It is the retail version.

Is there a reason that you can't backup files? is it anti piracy or something?

The reason I need to do it is a bit cheeky I suppose.

I bought my son a 3ds and the zelda game for xmas. but i wanted to play it in the meantime I assumed I'd be able to backup the saves and delete them from the console before giving it to him.

Serves me right perhaps

I'll have to delete the save and restart I guess. or probably not bother.

Yeah if its the retail version the game saves to the game card itself, I know this for a fact cause my son and I share a copy of the game. I have the first save file and he has the second one (there is three in total). So yeah you are just going to have to wait or like you said play the game for a bit and delete your file and then start over. But look at the bright side Christmas is only a week away.

Ah call it Santa, nice idea I don't really want him to know I've been playing it before Xmas, was a bit naughty of me

But I think he's across the Santa situation now so I don't want to push my luck.

I'll have to delete it.

Still curious why this can't be done though.

@HalloweenJack Why don't you just tell your son that you were testing out the game system and the game to make sure everything works fine like it should if he ends up asking why you were playing the game

He'll know full well why I was playing the game And I played past the 2nd dungeon. Quite a thorough test

No I'd prefer to give it to him and let him discover things for the first time.

I think what I'll do is delete it, wait for him to get where I was then copy the save and carry on. Anyway maybe I'll be too busy playing his other games....

But thanks everyone for your help.
