Topic: Aren't you intrigued Nintendo is the first embracing the 8th generation?

Quite surprising that they are the first to introduce a new revolution of video gaming, what with the Nintendo 3DS. What do you think?

So you are saying the 8th Generation is 3D? I don't really understand. It would be the 4th or 5th gen in handhelds wouldn't it? I don't compare handhelds to consoles myself. I don't know about everyone else.

There is really no revolution at all. Nintendo just were the first ones to utilize glasses-free gaming on a handheld device.

They haven't introduced the 8th gen of anything as that applies to consoles. Handheld gameing is like in its 5th gen

Yeah, i always consider the gaming "generations" for handhelds vs consoles as different.

Huh? Xbox 360 was the first console of the 7th Generation.

Nintendo isn't always first to market, but they're almost always first in innovation. Nintendo's best known traits are having the element of surprise, of doing the unexpected and of experimenting with things the other companies wouldn't touch (at least until later when they see how successful Nintendo is).

Nintendo leads in the portable generations by far.

Console-wise, they take their time with the product and when the time is right, it'll come out innovative and fresh as it can be.

5th gen.. not 8th.. but i have my money down that nintendo will be the first ones to introduce the 8th gen of consoles.. with insanely crappy hardware... that makes me sad:(

Was the first to be released, but remember, Microsoft rushed it to the market and it ended up as the most unreliable hardware this gen. Being first is not always good

Well, if you count the Game & Watch and the Milton Bradley Microvision, this is technically the 6th generation for handhelds.

Not in the slightest. The First to act is the first to lose. I'm more interested in seeing what Ninty's enemies do to counter them.

Nintendo rushed the Virtual Boy to market so they could focus on making the N64. Yokoi (The guy who created the VB, and also the GB) never intended that it would be released in the form it is in. And that was 15 years ago. Now that we have better technology, and Nintendo isn't rushing to get this out, and the reactions from E3 were extremely positive, it's extremely unlikely that history is going to repeat itself.
