Y'know, in the ~25 years since you saw Jaws 3D, the technology has improved quite a bit.
I'm sure. I think I may just be an old fogey. I can see myself in 50 years the last one left who hasn't had their chip installed yet, and I can see myself clinging to my NES and my Atari 7800 saying "noooooo! not me!!" and I can see them shoving me into the processing unit, escorted by police. So yeah, I'm a little hesitant. But I was proven wrong with the dsi and love mine, so I will probably be proven wrong again. I hope! The new systems look NICE though and I really want that red one

I also generally dislike glasses-based 3D, but this works in an entirely different way, and shouldn't have that same disorienting / hard-to-focus effect. There's no complex filtering or even shuttering going on, just your eyes naturally looking at the screen, but the screen has miniscule slits in it so that each eye can only see half the pixels.

Another observation I have is that we'll likely see sharp drop-off in games where you hold the DS like a book. These parallax barrier screens can't show 3D when you hold it sideways, so no one will choose that style for a game, knowing all 3D functionality is thrown out if you do so.
When you hold it sideways, then it's perfect for books, since you don't need 3D when reading a book. (See "100 Classic Book Collection" by Nintendo on the DS.)
1. trompe l'oeil 3D graphics (look it up) 2. DSi technology (will be getting G&W titles) 3. Backward compatibility (I'll have to get a GBA once I sell my DS; it'll give me an excuse to get Link's Awakening DX) 4. Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, and Ocarina of Time (I can't wait!) 5. Larger stylus (that'll be nice)

The EA interview had some very interesting remarks on the online capabilities. He says the system will let you know when your friends are online, what games they are playing, and their list of achievements. That's all somewhat vague, but does speak to what may be a more modernized online system.

While it's not exactly a confirmed feature, a Japanese paper is now claiming that it will have the ability to install games and keep them on the menu without a cartridge. That sounds vague, but could be an indication of significant onboard storage.
I don't know why you guys are talking about selling your DSi systems unless you really need the money to finance this. You're probably going to be better off playing your DS games on a DSi, because the increased resolution of the screens is going to make DS games look tiny, and the D-pad isn't in an ideal position to play DS games that use that either. Plus, I doubt we'll be able to transfer our DSiWare over.
Wikipedia now says this has an infrared port as well. I thought the GBC had one of those and people complained it barely worked, and my first laptop had one but then I've never seen them on other laptops since, so why would they bring back the infrared port now?
were the ultra good sound capabilitis discussed here? 'cous i'm a sound-man and i'm hearing really good stuff about what the 3ds can put out. just watch the interview with kojima. he's allready talking about 5.1 qualitiy level. that's quite impressive for a handheld. aside from that.....game installs on hardware?? F*** me, that would be all kinds of awesome!
about infrared functions.....it's just wikipedia....no one needs infrared functions. would be like using a 28.8k modem these days. makes absolutly no sense at all. just delet that from your memory.
what we really need is a monster hunter game on 3ds! PERIOD!
That's exactly what it has said all along, and that I posted at the start of this topic. Are you talking about the last parts there (Battery / Languages TBA and Parental Controls) ? That hasn't changed either, but I didn't post it because it's basically not saying anything.
Or am I missing something?

I'm more curious about the rumors that under the hood the 3DS should be about PS2-level of power, which is impressive.. to me, anyway. heh. Though that is what's most likely to change in the next three quarters as they finalize the design.
I wonder if Nintendo will to a "trade in your DSi for a 3DS" program of some kind as this thing makes the DSi (and DSi XL) obsolete. The DSlite and Phat still have the GBA port, so still that advantage over the later handhelds. I highly doubt Nintendo will give anyone anything for their old portables, sadly. They probably won't even transfer DSiWare over, as they did the purchases linked to a device, not a person thing. Ah well.
Stereoscopic pictures! I wonder if they'll release a way to print those out for use with my grandparents' old stereoscope? Having to view them on the 3DS only could be limiting...
