This news couldn't have come at a better time. I was at Barnes and Noble today, which happens to be in a shopping center with a Best Buy adjacent, so I went over and played it after my brother came to tell me. It was definitely amazing, and the controls were perfect. The D-pad is nowhere near uncomfortable to use as I thought it would be, though maybe that's just because I have big hands. Pilotwings was pretty fun, but I wish they'd had a Steel Diver demo, too; I want to see what Reggie's so excited about...
While I was playing some kid walked up and remarked to his dad that it was the new "DSi XL 3D". If I wasn't so busy being enthralled, I might've corrected him...

If I ever see someone (ie dog, kid, man) with SONY merchandise, I will kill them and they will thank me for it.

WE GOT A FANBOY HERE...
Yeah no kidding... I mean I'm a fan boy, but this guy makes me look like a... uh... unfanboy. Lol, but dude, I mean what about their CD players or TV's. IMO Sony really isn't meant for gaming, but their fine at what ever else they do.

Yeah, I remember only hearing the words "video" and "game(s)" in the same sentence, much less anything relating to them, a few times in the five or so years I lived there.
Why not go? I mean its not like you can do that much on it at a store anyway, and I'm not buying it right off the bat, IMO theres just not enough on day 1. I may even wait for the 3DSlite/3DSi or what ever the heck their gonna call it.
You're going to be waiting a long time then. What could they possibly add to the system that they can't put in a firmware update?
Tried out Pilotwings at Best Buy. 'Twas epic. The 3D actually helps me to land better instead of misjudging the distance between me and the target I have to land on and smashing into the ground. >.<
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

What about the PS2 and PS3?...Hey Ninty, was a company that made toys before Arcade and home gaming consoles.
Bigger screens, a longer battery, multi-touch, stereo microphones, higher resolution cameras (with zoom and flash), and a more convenient stylus location to name a few.

Yeah, I figured that out after I realized that it took the DS lite about a year and a half to come out... I'll probably be getting the 3DS around May when Paper Mario 3DS and the eShop are out.

For those of you stinkers that have Best Buys with 3DS demos and want to look at the home menu even though you think you can't, this guy who obviously had way to much time with the system has an answer. [youtube:NNLOPP8eG7g] All you have to do is: Hold the power button until the 3DS is off. Press and hold simultaneously the following buttons for 3 seconds: start, select, L, and R. Press the power button and a menu should pop up on screen that asks about a StreetPass feature. Press the home button to go to the menu. Source: http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=153229

Wow, I could have used that information earlier today.

lol. Seriously though, that's exactly how I feel. This is gonna be the longest week of my life.....it just seems so surreal that I'll own a 3DS in a little more than a week. This road up to it has been so long and twisted with rumors and secrecy and speculation, its gonna be so strange finally playing one. I can't wait!!!
Stopped by Best Buy today around lunch time (11:45am) with a coworker to check it out. He played first while I watched the sales video that's part of the display. He played it for about 10 seconds and said he was putting his DSi on Craigslist TODAY (then preorder the 3DS). He was clearly WOWED by it.
I only played through one level of Pilot Wings and the game played as expected. The 3D was pretty nifty, but still felt gimmicky to me, though I could probably fall in love with it pretty easily. The slider worked as advertised: you can change the depth of the 3D effects and the change was very noticeable as you moved the slider up and down. My eyes adjusted easily even though my brain really wanted to fight the processing of the 3D image at first. Mentally, I was ready for one of those silly "3D posters" where you try to find the missing (in plain sight) item and then finally when you get your perspective correct, it JUMPS out at you. I think this mindsight is what threw me for a loop at first.
Overall, I'd give my short experience a 7/10. Please understand that this is not a total review of the 3DS by any stretch of the imagination; it was just a rating I've slapped on my brief experience. As I said before, I'm sure I could really grow to like it if I had spent enough time with it. Probably days, not hours.
The trick to take the 3DS to the home menu did not work for me. I watched the video and even brought the instructions with me so that I could get it right. Neither I, nor my worker could get it to work. It's possible it was "patched", doesn't work on all of the 3DS units, or we just weren't doing it properly. I'm guessing it was the later as we were both rushing because it seemed like we were doing something illegal and we were kind of nervous about it and were constantly looking over our shoulders. We'd make crappy criminals, lol.
With all that being said, I'm still on the fence. I have both colors on preorder and am not entirely convinced that I will keep either when they arrive. In fact, because the resale market has sucked so bad in Japan clearly there are other factors that are at work however I may just cancel one, or both, preorders. If I decide to pull the trigger, I'll definately be going with the black 3DS. The aqua was U-G-L-Y imho, but ymmv. If there were some AWESOME games due out at launch then it would make my decision so much easier.
The wait surprisingly won't be too long for me as I have an animation project due on the 28th (should be finished next Friday or Saturday I hope) and because of this, the days are going to fly by.
