#5 - Fuecoco
According to the official Pokémon website, our favourite and likely most delicious new starter Fuecoco enjoys eating as much as we do. Fuecoco, while obviously based on a crocodile, also looks suspiciously like a chilli pepper. Enough for us to want to eat one for ourselves, anyway.
We’ve got ourselves the beginnings of a delicious Mediterranean pizza: diced Fuecoco and cured Smolivs. Or – better yet – Fuecoco would likely make a great hot sauce. We wonder where Fuecoco falls on the Scoville scale. Looks like it's got some bite.
#4 - Vanillite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe
There isn’t a person on this planet (other than those lactose-intolerant, we guess) that dislikes ice cream, and you can’t convince us otherwise. As a sentient form of vanilla ice cream, there’s absolutely no way the Vanilluxe line wouldn’t be delicious. The line’s Pokédex entries do not state what it tastes like, but they literally have vanilla in their name.
Too bad there isn’t a chocolate sauce Pokémon – yet.
#3 - Appletun
Game Freak went and designed an actual Pokémon based on an apple pie. It’s like they want us to eat their creations. Seriously, do people in the Pokémon world not eat Appletun? Is there a version of PETA – maybe called PETP – campaigning to stop people from doing so? Apparently, Appletun is loaded with delicious, sweet nectar. Who wouldn’t want to eat one with a scoop of Vanillite on the side?
We’re leaving both its pre-evolution and alternate form off this list as they’re basically wormy apples. Nobody wants to eat wormy apples.
#2 - Galarian Farfetch’d and Sirfetch’d
The Sirfetch’d line comes equipped with everything needed for a fowl-based curry. It wields a massive leek and a leaf-based shield that is not unlike a spring onion. Both surely would add a lot of flavour when simmered with spices – maybe some diced Fuecoco – for a few hours. You’d just have to, y’know, de-feather Sirfetch’d before throwing him in the pot. Please don’t call PETP on us.
In the Galar region, from where Sirfetch’d hails, curries have become a staple for Pokémon trainers exploring the wild area. You expect us to believe someone hasn’t tried throwing a Sirfetch’d in the pot? Please. Fetch the Exeggutor naan.
#1 - Milcery and Alcremie
The Alcremie line ranks higher than all other food-themed Pokémon for two reasons. First, Milcery evolves into one of many flavours of Alcremie based on its held item and what time of day the player spins around in a circle. No, we’re not joking. These flavours include mint cream, matcha, and rainbow swirl, which alter the cake-based Pokémon’s appearance. Alcremie comes with more options than a Kalos patisserie.
Second, in Gigantimax form, Alcremie becomes a massive, five-tiered cake that could likely feed every town in every Pokémon region. It's said cream endlessly flows off this Alcremie, and its attacks pack up to 100,000 kilocalories.
Now that is a cake.
Which Pokémon would you most want to eat? Let us know in the poll while we go out and grab something for lunch, and maybe a dessert after that. If we forgot an edible ‘mon you’d like to sample, let us know in the comments!
What I’m wondering is where would Gooigi be placed if he were on this list?
A lot of these don't even look like Pokemon. Number 3 looks like something you'd see in Digimon
Mmmm oyakodon is tasty. I’d eat Togepi oyakodon.
Can Tepig be an option?
Where is Lechonk??? I could go for some Lechonk kawali.
WHY DO PEOPLE WANNA EAT POKÉMON?!?
Because some of them are food source for peoples in Pokemon world.
Btw, just now I browsed Roasted Lechonk from Google image and I got very obvious horror of roasted whole piglet.
People do eat Appletun, they peel off slices from it's body as snacks.
@moodycat Absolutely not! They're meant to be cursed tea - so presumably made by somebody putting cold tea into the microwave. The horror.
Surely they're all edible?
Even Ash is technically edible
I always like the idea that the common phrase when it comes to eating meat and fish in the Pokémon world is to “not think too much about it”. It’s definitely Pokémon though, having actual animals would be redundant to the world.
Also, Hate to be the fun police on this one, but the Vanilluxe line is not part of the “food” pokemonl. They’re not even ice cream, they’re sentient icicles that purposefully look like ice cream to appear more friendly to humans.
@weisske Most new Pokemon look like knock-off Pokemon. I find the effect usually dissipates and your brain accepts them as normal after staring at them for a couple years straight.
I am getting tired of everyone saying fuecoco is based on peppers he is clearly not.
What about Shuckle and it's berry juice? ^_^
I think I'm going to go with Appletun on this one. Yeah Alcremie, Sirfetch'd and Vanilluxe sound delicious, but Appletun is hard confirmed to be something that kids in the Pokemon world consume and from what we know, it seems to be incredibly delicious. Plus, I'm a massive fan of apples myself so that helps as well. Just no shiny ones for me though: red apple > green apple.
@Kyloctopus Probably on top of Alcremie, cake with jelly is very nice
Chansey or Blissey eggs
Gardevoir all day.
I just want to chew on a Pikachu.
PETP stands for People Eating Tasty Pokemon
There's no way to proof which one is indeed the tastiest of all if we can't physically taste them...
Just going for the classic vanilluxe with a cherubi on top here.
The smell of sizzling Spoinkon in the morning is just the tops.
The only right answer is Galarian Zapdos. Nice pre-cooked chicken, just makes me wanna bite into it.
If you are a vegan or hate the idea of people eating meat, please ignore this message, I dont' want to disgust anyone.
With that out of the way:
How is Lechonk not an option??? Lechonk is my answer, all the way.
Vanillite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe aren't made of ice cream
they are made of snow, on top of sentient icicles
they only look like ice cream, but in reality, they are nothing more than snow and icicles
Obligatory Brian David Gilbert's video on pokemon edibility: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqzghgtJ1Is
So if you're vegetarian or vegan and you eat a plant pokemon like Cherubi or Sunflora are you actually a meat eater?
On topic I would prefer hot n spicy Torchic nuggets or a double Miltank burger with cheese.
Why not Magikarp?
It's scales are too hard to eat, that's why not
@Zverik Thank you for posting this link so I didn't have to. I miss having new Unraveled videos.
I love me a good steak.
This was a good and fun read, nice job!
@weisske alas, the closest thing to a pie digimon is shortmon
unless your meaning appletun which i could honestly see being eldoradimon's rookie...
one would think that there would be more food based digimon than there are food based pokemon given that theres a lot more digimon than pokemon, but so far theres only like 7 or 8.
the one above, potamon, jagamon, torikaraballmon, bugermon(rookie), bugermon(champion), & ebiburgamon
not sure if weddinmon counts as its more wearing food than being food
no love for Cherubi
I will not stand for Bounsweet erasure.
Kudos to the writer for remembering Tropius exists. If only the Pokemon Company did. My favorite pokemon is forever forgotten, still sour that Tropius wasn't in SuMo. Alola would seem appropriate to be Tropius' original home.
@Jploy54 WHAT? the Vaniluxe evolution family is not based on ice cream, that ridiculous
Sorry but togepi is dinner
I'll have a Stantler salad.
The method for evolving Milcery into Alcremie still makes me chuckle even yet. How are you supposed to know you have to spin around in a circle? 😂
What will they come up with in gen 9 I wonder? hmm let's see perhaps you have to climb a tree at a certain time? or perhaps swim around a certain area of water at a certain time? who knows.
“ While Nintendo Life is based out of the UK, we found it difficult to rank this tea-based Pokémon any higher than 11th. “
Mate, it’s number 9.
How daaaaaareeee you suggest that Togepi can be butchered and devoured!
I’m heartbroken at the idea and disgusted by the graphic visuals. The angels will not be kind to you, naughty sir!
wolfs down Smolivs with Bouffalant cheese
I love that this isn't a back page article. This is serious news, people!
I mean, we already know people eat Pokémon from comments in the first season; in Hypno's Naptime, the Magikarp at the Pokémon Center falls over and Ash says, "Looks like it's ready for the deli counter." Farfetch'd's Pokédex entry says clearly that it's almost extinct because it's delicious when cooked with leek (which, for its survival, it should really stop carrying around with it). And of course there's the scandal in Gold/Silver/Crystal regarding Team Rocket and the sale of Slowpoke tails. Along that vein, what I'd like to know is if Sharpedo are mangled and murdered for their fins like the sharks of our Earth... but as far as 'Can we eat it' questions, what about a Clamperl? Octillery? Whishcash? Stantler and Miltank are definitely going on my menu, but I bet you could add a Tauros in there, as a buffalo equivalent. I was going to ask about Sunflora seeds, but since those would be Sunkern, I clearly just have to admit that I'm a monster, unless there's some way to harvest and eat them before they sprout and become a Pokémon with big adorable eyes. If you wanted honey, would you keep a hive of Combees and a Vespiquen, or would you just munch down on the Combees themselves? If you live in the colder regions of the Pokémon world, are Seel and Spheal on the menu? And what, I ask you, does a Delibird taste like, if not chicken?
And now I want Apple (Crumble?) Pie. Thanks NLife!
Well, Pokémon's version of PETA disbanded after the man behind the scenes was caught using the organization as a front for world domination. You can the former leader, N, for more details.
@AvianBlue @SteamEngenius Miltank are raised for their Moo Moo Milk. If you want a burger or steak, eat a Tauros.
Squirtle. Get rid of the head and eat the rest in the shell with a spoon.
@weisske you are right about this.
If someone turns Lechonk into Bacon, I will become vegan.
I'm not sure Togepi is an egg, it's a baby animal that still has it's shell on. If you want eggs you need Chansey.
Also they absolutely do eat Appletun I remember the Pokedex entry talking about kids peeling it's pastry skin for snacks...which is horrifying.
There's a few missing form the rankings. Cheruby is a cherry. Boundsweet and it's evolution are literally the Fruit pokemon and is a mangosteen. Foongus and Amongus are mushrooms... I guess you could count Parasect and Paras for that too but they have bugs in 'em.
And Combee is a flying honeycomb debatably.
I'm sure I'm missing a few other than the "could be meat" ones.
