It's been another exciting week for Sonic the Hedgehog fans, with Sega not only releasing a new trailer for Sonic Frontiers at Gamescom's Opening Night Live but also confirming the title would be arriving on all platforms (including the Nintendo Switch) on 8th November.
With this anticipated "open-zone" entry getting closer by the day, it seems we've now got an idea of the file size for the Switch eShop version of the game. As shared by Nintendo Everything, Sonic Frontiers is currently listed on Nintendo's digital store as being 10.4GB in size. In contrast, Sonic Forces on Switch was 6.6GB, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate was just 6.8GB.
In Sonic Frontiers, players will race across "five massive overworld islands" filled with all sorts of environments from dense forests, overflowing waterfalls and sizzling deserts. Players can also expect to encounter some friendly faces along the way.
Will you be downloading Sonic Frontiers from the Switch eShop, or picking up a physical copy? Comment down below.

Huh, I know it’s a lot switch wise, but Im actually surprised it’s just 10, thought at least 15.
I still have zero faith Sonic Team will pull this off.
10.4 GB on Switch so I believe it will be 20 - 25 GB for PS5 version.
Pretty huge GB size, tho.
It's funny I always see big games like this as inefficient, they have not reused objects and textures as much as they should etc.
This sonic could either be a new sonic adventure and play brilliantly or be an unplayable mess. I'll wait for a real review and not pre order.
@Blofse You mean like Xenoblade 3's 15 GB? Pretty efficient I would say. Much better than 3 GB of 60$ Mario Strikers.
Looking forward to this, looks like fun
I’m so ready for this game!
I wish sonic could become a fighting franchise again. I'd love to see a modern rekindling of the Mario/Sonic wars. Very fond memories of my school days, fighting with pen knives in the gym equipment room, team blue and red giving each other hell. I remember my friend Gary Flynn ambushed two Mazzas (Mario supporters) after school on their way to the bus and cut one of their shoes open. I was a Sonic supporter back then though I prefer Mario now. Amazing days, I'd love to see that energy again. Would actually love to do a reunion fight with some of the old gang.
@strollin_stu I already think it will be good, and do just fine. But I really don’t blame people for being as cautious as they are, I mean sega a lot of the time takes two steps forward two steps back, sometimes just failing, really badly.
Tho It does annoy me a bit that some people just hate on it just to hate on it, not saying there doing that because there not.
@strollin_stu
The people that have played it were given a small slice heavily curated by Sonic Team. I think they overall game will be a buggy awful mess
Looks great, cant wait to play this game.
Might get it for the steam deck instead of the switch. Probably look better and no switch tax🤷♂️
I think I will get the physical copy. The game looks much more interesting than I thought.
That's impressively small for a 3rd party open-world game on Switch.
I want it to be good, but unfortunately Sonic games have been more miss than hit over the past 20 plus years. With so many other games coming out for the rest of the year and early next year, I'll most likely have to wait for a price drop either way.
Be grateful guys, that so many Sonic games coming to Nintendo platforms for so many years. Those, who always talk the same negative crap about Sonic games, keep it for yourselfs and let the rest enjoy this promising game.
why is Sonic fighting the Geth from Mass Effect?
I really just want this game to be good. Don’t know if it will be. But I’m here for it.
@steventonysmith After checking out the whole demo and people's impressions I have faith that it'll be good.
Curious what performance will be like for this game. With Hogwarts getting delayed, I preordered Sonic Frontiers (ironically the same day as Hogwarts) on a hope and a prayer and a realization that my son will like it regardless of it’s quality. Looking forward to finally knowing if we finally have an interesting 3D Sonic game!
I'm gonna get this on PC. I don't think the Switch version will run too well.
@SlainREDD
Wish I couldn't blindly have that level of faith in a company that has constantly been producing garbage
@Gamergirl94
It will be a combo of 06 and Forces, it will have big open mindless fields to get you to the levels which will be just as boring and janky as Forces
@Gamergirl94 The problem is even if it is the greatest 3D Sonic game ever made I feel there is going to be a portion of the Sonic fanbase that are going to hate on it for not being a 2D game and will want it to flop for the fun of it which is why I have always given every Sonic game a fair go and not judged it on what I have seen written about it on the internet. I am hoping it is good and am not expecting it to be the greatest Sonic game ever made - just a fun Sonic game I can enjoy.
@Debbiee Idk why they would be mad, we literally have mania and Origins, those two have shown that sega not only hasn’t forgot about 2d sonic, they also know how well they sell.
Oh then there’s classic sonic in generation.
@steventonysmith
It’s not blind faith when most people who have actually played the game say it’s fun.
@Gamergirl94 Well so far most of the demo players who are talking about their experience are saying some very positive things, so it seems like this game is actually gonna end up being quite good and very fun.
That's a lot of recycled assets!
@NOALink The only thing I noticed they re used, which isn’t a bad thing, is probably sonics model, but I’m sure even that’s touched up.
People act like re use ing a lot of assets are bad, but one of Nintendos most popular legend of Zelda games literally did just that, MM re used all sorts of things OOT.
They are reusing way more than Sonic's model. Even the level designs have elements copy-pasted from earlier games. This could be a good game, but they are certainly getting a lot of mileage out of their prior efforts.
@NOALink Is that a bad thing tho? Like if the game sucks yeah, but if not that just means they had more time to work on other things.
@NOALink
Most of the game is brand new though, as the reused stages will take up about 10% of the play time on a casual playthrough (about 2 hours out of 20 to 30 hours); and while the level layouts have been lifted from other games, it still required the assets themselves to be remade for the new physics.
Since this is their first open game they obviously put most of their effort into that side of the game (5 huge open islands), so I (personally) think we should give them a pass on the level reuse this time because as a whole it’s gonna be one of the most original Sonic games we’ve had in ages (maybe since Colours). However if they make another game using this formula then I would definitely expect the stages to have more work put into them and see an issue with reuse yet again.
Also, having rehashes of good stage designs is better then brand new stages with bad designs, so hopefully they can learn from these stages and start making good original stage designs again.
@Pandy-the-Panda
Again a demo in a small slice of the game heavily curated by Sonic Team and Sega. It's not the final product or full game. My faith in the project is that they will not be able to make a full game without it being bland, and full of game breaking bugs
@Snatcher
And every Bethesda game reuses assets and an ancient decrepit engine....oh wait their games are terrible

The title of Game Radars article is I played Sonic Frontiers and it makes a staggeringly awful first impression
https://www.google.com/amp/s/kotaku.com/sonic-frontiers-demo-impressions-sega-open-world-delay-1849059374/amp#scso=_nFgMY4v_OrepptQPt_CuoAY9:360
Kotaku's article is called I Played Sonic Frontiers And I Still Don’t Get It
So not everyone is coming away from their time with the demo saying positive things
@steventonysmith You're a super miserable person aren't you? My God I'd hate to know what kinda of games you play and enjoy. While I agree Sonic Team has not been always on point or even the target in the past, I remain hopeful that this game will turn out at least better than average.
My guess will be at least a 7.5 out of 10.
@steventonysmith Now we both know what they meant. Of course that doesn’t mean that no one likes it. But a big majority do, and that’s what they were saying. And they said most, not all. Like come on.
And as for the reviews.
Game radars in my opinion, just sounded like they were nitpicking, but it’s there opinion and I haven’t played it so I can’t say much.
(This is all opinion by the end of the day)
Kotaku tbh, sounded like legit criticism, didn’t even sound like they hated it, it sounded just that, they’d didn’t get it. Again haven’t played it so.
Also not sure I agree with that Bethesda games suck, but hey, your opinion.
@HXLXIII
I just played and beat Cult of the Lamb and had a great time. It was my 329th game on my Switch. So I do enjoy an assortment of games, but I also get annoyed watching a franchise I grew up with getting beat up
I would say at best I'm cautiously optimistic.
The fact Sega is building up this game so much seems unwise to me. And I'm also willing to bet this game won't be the great overwhelming success they so hope it will be.
I had high hopes about this game but then reality kicked it. Love Sonic Adventure but this just doesn't seem like it will work or be fun.
@MrE_machine
The critical and financial failure of Sonic Frontiers may be the final nail in the coffin for Sega, they may look to another company to buy them out
Almost a quarter of the comments here is the same dude insisting this game will be trash lol
@Arawn93
Yup, I can see a stinker from a mile away
@steventonysmith
There’s actually proof that the demo wasn’t curated for this event... Someone glitched the demo into turning on auto save to reload their data after the time expired, so they played a lot more then they were meant to and we know a lot more then we were meant to. There was also a closed door demo showing the second island that had a positive article written… Making a curated demo takes away from development time, and Sonic Team are clearly focusing on development.
@steventonysmith
Both of those articles are from the older June build, which most viewers criticised, but was still liked by most players. A few bad articles or reviews don’t matter, cause there’s always gonna be some people who don’t like X game, don’t get X game, or just blindly hate X game, we need to look at the majority to know how a game actually is. Why can’t you accept that most people who have played the game -CURRENT build or not- say that the game is actually quite good.
@AstraeaV
Most people who have gotten to play say it’s fun though… So it seems to be working…
@steventonysmith
It doesn’t matter how you think the game looks, people who have played it say that it’s really good, and “curated demo” isn’t an excuse for them thinking so! Get that into your small head.
@Pandy-the-Panda
My small head? Because I am objectively worried about a new bigger game from a company who hasn't made a quality title in over a decade? I'm glad you trust the word blindly of paid journalists.
@steventonysmith
Except I’m not blindly trusting the journalists, I never said that. You seem to trust those two negative articles though… I’m trusting the public who have played it (from June & now), I’m trusting their experiences and their footage, of which we have a lot of thanks to the save data glitch and the fact that even the set 15 minutes can be played completely different each time. I will be trusting positive articles, but only because they’re backed up by what everyone else is saying.
You just really can’t accept that this game is good, can you? If you don’t trust people or journalists saying the demo is good then why would you change your thinking when they say it about the full game?
Articles are usually made so the writers can be paid, so they will say whatever they think will get the most views, and negative news/articles usually always get a lot more attention then positive news. Paying journalists to lie also doesn’t really work, cause once the game comes out and the lie is exposed that writer/site will lose credibility.
@Pandy-the-Panda
I don't care what journalists say about the game. I do care about the hundreds of dollars the Sonic Team has robbed me of by producing one broken turd after another. I look at their entire line of work and set my expectations as low as humanly possible.
If I'm wrong and the game isn't a broken under baked mess I'll be the first one to admit I'm wrong and purchase the Super Gold Digital Edition
@steventonysmith
Sonic and Sega will coast along just fine I'll assure you lol. The franchise endured so many blunders and Sega Sammy Holdings has so many money avenues.
@Dop88
Sega is worth 3.6 billion so a few big budget bad decisions can cause them to either abandon properties or even worse
