Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has received a number of updates and crossovers since it originally launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2019, and the development team has today announced another one.
This time around, it's collaborating with Journey - an indie adventure title, originally co-created by thatgamecompany and Santa Monica Studio. This update will be rolling out next week on August 23rd, and comes with a "brand-new crossover boss area".
This new section of the castle, known as The Tunnels, is inspired by Journey and features a Bloodstained twist. Once you've navigated through the cavernous maze, you'll have to battle the level's guardian. Defeat it and you'll unlock a special Journey-style item. Here's how to unlock this area:
"The entrance to The Tunnels will appear after you have freed Gebel and unlocked the Den of Behemoths. The room with the doorway will be marked on the castle map (no, it’s not IN the Den of Behemoths). Head to the highlighted area on the map and you’ll find the entrance inside."
This next update (V 1.4), will also include some bug fixes and game updates, including an update for the Nintendo Switch version which fixes a timestamp error. For the full rundown, see the latest blog update.

I don’t even own this game but the crossover alone is worth it!
I appreciate how this game keeps on giving. Ready for a sequel, though.
I'm certainly not doing to say no to free DLC, but this game has some of the most random crossovers. At this rate, it's only a matter of time until vampire kirby makes an appearance.
Have they sorted the performance issues on Switch yet? Surely performance should be a higher priority than this.
How many crossovers have been available at this point?
A list would be good since I finished it quite a while ago and would be good to see what new content there is.
Is the new area called “Don’t Stop Believin’’? “Wheel in the Sky”?
That's... random.
@Moistnado Pretty sure at this point, the game performs how it's gonna perform. Go play it on something more powerful if the performance bothers you that much.
Don't know if it's like this on other platforms, but the Switch version even on the current patch (I think):
-Frequent stutters
-Dropped inputs
-Wonky hitboxes
-Some loading screens are weirdly long
-Doppelganger boss getting stuck in a wall (admittedly makes the fight a lot easier)
-Aurora's hair physics are super jank
-At a certain point, Aurora looks like she has Miriam's head, and it looks really bad
There's probably more stuff too. The game is still fun and it was a LOT more broken on release, but after SO long it STILL has so many issues. Play it on something else if you can.
All the new content for this game is just gonna be crossovers from now on huh. :/ not sure how to feel about that.
If people search for bad things about this game you will always find them. All the games for that matter But other than that this is a great game even on switch had no problems with it and still play it from time to time and love it.
As for crossovers why not ? It's more joy to people who likes the game and new content also.
I bought the game 3 years ago on switch, and refunded it since it was barely playable. Slow and laggy. I wonder if they fixed it
My copy thinks it’s 7 hours earlier than it really is. Glad to see that getting fixed.
If it still (after lots of patches) wouldn’t look and run like sh*t on Switch... Metroidvanias are best suited for handhelds. But: Guess I’ll play my version on the Series X for the Journey update then.
I'm glad they're finally getting their Kickstarter obligations out of the way, because I really want to see what these guys can do with a sequel. All that's left after this is Chaos and VS. Mode in Fall, and in Winter, some new outfits (free and paid DLC) and Classic Mode 2 (paid DLC), which I'm probably looking forward to the most, since I really liked Miriam's movement in the original.
But after that, I would like to see a new game because I've already visited the Hellhold enough times to where I don't feel like it can surprise me anymore. Maybe I'll give Nightmare Mode a try, since I've already beaten the game on Hard Mode earlier this year on a fresh save file.
Is it wrong that my brain immediately thought of the band?
@FishyS Well now I want that to happen.
Journey port for the Switch confirmed?? I wish >_<
@ChromaticDracula Came here to say this
Like, not the Steve Perry, Neil Schon Journey, which originally split off from Santana before going all out 80s Pop Rock and all lol
Apparently by “Journey,” they mean a somewhat popular indie game
