Stardew Valley is one of the most anticipated upcoming indie releases on the horizon for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s been known for a while that the game is essentially good to go on the platform, with just some final approvals barring the way to release. The Rune Factory-esque sim game has made quite a cultural impact on other platforms and will no doubt prove to be right at home on the Switch, and now it seems that the game has been given the green light.
Chucklefish recently posted a tweet saying that Nintendo has approved the game for the Switch, so now all that’s left is for the company to work out a release date and then it’ll be live on the eShop. Certainly good news to hear, as there’s no other game like this in the Switch’s relatively young library yet, and given the success that other indies have found on the platform, this one’s sure to shine bright. Here’s the launch trailer from its debut last year:
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? If you played it on other platforms, what did you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I can't wait!
I have not played this yet, but I have seen game play. Can't wait for my chance to play.
Speaking about Stardew Valley, when is Bokujou Monogatari for Switch ?
I'm still waiting, Marvelous....
its a great game, despite the many script / writing errors, such as overal bad gammar (see what i did there, these kind of writing mistakes are in stardew valley
nonetheless i'll still obv get it
@Anti-Matter I'm hoping for another Story of Seasons. That's the REAL Harvest Moon.
cant wait wofowirjoihgp;oeinw
Now I can stop searching "Stardew Valley Switch" on Twitter every 5 hours. Bliss.
It's about time! I hope it's a week or less. Probably late October knowing how long things take sometimes.
Yay! Any word on Switch price? $20?
yass. been waiting for ages. or felt like it. hope the prize is right. just the same prize to the one on pc would be great
@neufel hahaha me too. still no release date thought. but still a great news
I got it on PC and the experience is really great. All characters are memorable in their way. Not to mention that Stardew Valley has huge amounts of content.
Excited to finally see what all the hype is about.
I can't hardly wait, even though I've already sunk hundreds of hours into the Steam version.
If all that's left to do is work out a release date, then there's nothing stopping them from releasing it very soon? I'd expect not this week, which is fine because I already have Golf Story to look forward to. But the sooner the better as it'd be nice to throw a good amount of time into it before Super Mario Odyssey comes out.
Finally! Been waiting to play Stardew Valley so I could play it on the Switch. Let’s go!
Your move Marvelous.
I can't wait for this!! Been waiting to hear news about this!
No gyro no buy. Deal breaker!.. day one buy!
I wanna get physical, physical, I wanna get.... physical, let's get into physical!
@SwitchVogel you do know Bokujo Monogatari is Story of Seasons right? He did not even mention Harvest Moon at all.
I cringe so hard every time someone says "right at home on Switch" because at this point it's about every damn game and genre.
I've got around 170 hours in the PC version, so might pick this up. I just hope multiplayer will be available soon.
@SwitchVogel I don't know why, but the art style of Story of Seasons is just not appealing to me.
Cannot, easily one of the best games of 2016.
@SwitchVogel The Switch is slated to get both so I don't really know what there is to hope for......
Meh! If you actually grew up on a farm like me, playing a game about farming is the last thing you want to play.
@Lizuka Funny how I've never got into Harvest Moon, but Stardew Valley ate my life for about 150 hours already. There must be a subtle difference between those two games that put us on the other side of it.
Welcome on Switch, but not for me.got loads of this sort of stuff on my 3ds, wiiu. etc.
@Menchi187 Well that's because every damn game and genre are better on the Switch.
Patiently waiting for this and Terratia 😊
This game consumed me like no other and I am hard to please these days. I strongly recommend it
Looks promising
I REALLY shouldn't get this again....but but portable Stardew..🤤
@BenAV You forgot the /s at the end of your comment.
Yeah so erm. First, instabuy..
First game on PC was erm... 150h or so (Harvey <3) ? It was really early and they've added so much stuff so I started another game.
It is so... addicting. "One more day... one more day" and then you've sat there for few hours.
Instant buy
definetly! never played this and want it!!
@Menchi187 I forgot nothing.
Would like to get this but don't have a huge amount of time to invest in the game so might give it a miss...
..It looks soooo good though
My son and I have spent a lot of time on the Steam version. I will definitely double dip here...unless of course that thing happens where this comes out for $30. It's $15 on Steam and PS4... god it probably will launch for $30 here.
I will buy day one if this game gets a physical release for switch!
Great news for those who are looking forward to this. Unfortunately for me it is too little too late. I have no interest in double dipping if there is no physical, and at this point I can hold off until a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons appears. Day one if it does get physical!
I would like to play this computer game.
I got this on PC and sunk hundreds of hours into it. Having this wherever I go would be dangerous.
And danger is my middle name ',: )
eShop only?
This has taken so long to release that i'm no longer interested. Moving on.
Like others have said, it's been so long that my enthusiasm levels have dropped. While I love Stardew Valley, I am not too keen on eShop only. It'd be Day One if there were to be a physical release, however with digital only, I'm feeling just kind of "meh" about it.
Unless I can tear myself away from Golf Story, this game doesn't stand a chance. I'll have to wait until I'm done with GS before I give this a go. I'm interested though.
So glad this is finally coming. This game is insanely gorgeous and like most Bokujou Monogatari games, perfect for handhelds.
Thing I'm most excited about? AN ACTUAL MINE. Bokujou Monogatari has simply not been the same or nearly as addictive since they reduced "mines" into holes in a hill. Still have no freaking idea why that decision was made.
THIS. IS. KILLING. ME.
Man I have been checking Chucklefish and Tiyuri's twitter hourly ever since I saw this announcement. I'm desperately want this game on the Switch. It's approved... So give it to me now pretty please!
@SwitchVogel Um, no. The real Harvest Moon was when the creators were developing it. They left after Harvest Moon DS and Island of Happiness onward is new people. Still MARVELOUS, but not the creator and key developers of the Harvest Moon series that left. I think anyone should have picked up on that, given Pete was no longer the protagonist anymore. Well, that was the second character's official name in Harvest Moon 64. He is Mark in A Wonderful Life and goes by the fan name of Jack in the SNES game since he has no name there.
But yeah, Stardew Valley is real hype. I considered every Harvest Moon "Story of Seasons" ever since Island of Happiness, but I'm open to another one of those on the Switch as well. Hopefully, A Wonderful Life makes it to Switch Virtual Console in the future.
I never double dip but for once I'm considering it this game is that good!
YES! Oh please be soon! I have wanted this on Switch since the first video I saw! Chucklefish is making this and Wargroove and I REALLY want to play both of them!
@GameOtaku Haha, yeah I bet that would be the case. But most people don't grow up on farms these days.
So another month at most?
Finally!!!
