Super Famicom: The Box Art Collection launches this month, but we've been lucky enough to have the chance to thumb through an advance copy ahead of its official release. Published by Bitmap Books and created by fanatical Super Famicom fan Stu Brett, this 276 page tome highlights some of the best cover artwork of the 16-bit years.
The titles included within come from an era when the packaging of a video game arguably had more impact on your purchasing decision than any other factor; a time before detailed internet previews, screenshot galleries and pre-release trailers. Some of the covers included here will be instantly familiar to fans and collectors, while others are rather more obscure and some haven't been previously documented in print outside of Japan.

Now I won't have to rely on my memory any more.
Can't wait for my non collector's edition to come through the door. Japanese box art for Nintendo games has always been better looking than US/UK ones (up to GameCube anyway), so looking forward to seeing the Japanese twist to the SNES games from my childhood.

God, all of those pictures make me so happy, especially the top with the SNES controller and games. All the ones in the actual book are absolutely awesome too. Gorgeous stuff.
I'm very impressed that Chohmakaimura is rendered under its official romanisation and that "ou"'s have generally been changed to "ō"'s, now (though the supra-title in "Adjective Noun Freds" like Assault Suits Valken and Kidō Senshi V Gundam should be in a smaller font than the title proper, for in this case the "Kidō Senshi" part should be in smaller text). It gives the product a whole new air of professionalism.
Still a slight tragedy that (at least in @AlexOlney's copy) titles like Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World and Super Mario: Yossy Island are inconsistently just given entries under their international English titles (unless that was intentional, for recognition purposes or something, though the book's use of "Kirby Bowl" rather than "Kirby's Dream Course" and "Yoshi no Cookie" rather than "Yoshi's Cookie" etc seems to indicate this isn't the case), but otherwise, this has a place high on my list of gift ideas.
They actually put a gundam game there, nice!

Looks beautiful. I just received the Artcade book and it is stunning, brought me back to my days as a kid hanging out at my grandpa's arcade that he managed, in the early 1980s,
I don't have this sort of nostalgia for the Famicom art, as I grew up in the US, but surely, the Famicom box arts are far superior to the NES ones.
