When the original TMNT NES hit the Wii Virtual Console, Ubisoft held the rights to games based on TMNT and did a deal with Konami for the re-releases of the NES and Arcade games.

I believe Activision currently have the license for games, so while it could happen, I wouldn't bet on seeing any Virtual Console releases.

Again it's quit complicated. Back then Ubi Soft had the rights to the TMNT games while TMNT as a whole was owned by co-creator Peter Laird. Laird then sold all TMNT rights over to Nickelodeon. So even if Activision can acquire the rights to the older TMNT games they would still have to go through Nickelodeon since they use the old TV characters in the sprites.

I'm losing a little faith in the VC. Games are coming at a snail's pace and the ones that do come out are ho hum.

I would like to see Nintendo at least try for this. At least try to get some of the popular games. I could even respect it if they said something like "We couldn't get the license to make the TMNT games on VC, but we did try".
