Topic: Which drum kit to get for wii

Hi all,
I know I am a bit late on the scene but I am trying to figure out which drum kit to get for the wii. As far as I can see there are two types, the Rock band ones that come without cymbals but extra drum and the band hero ones that come with cymbals and three drums.
It seems to me that it would be better to have a set with cymbals but could someone tell me the pro's and cons of both sets please.
many thanks Greame

What Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero games do you currently have. If none, I'd recommend getting an Xbox One and waiting for Rock Band 4's release as music games have not been well supported on Nintendo consoles. Don't forget that it is not coming to Wii U.

If you currently own any Rock Band games and a significant amount of DLC then I'd recommend the Rock Band drum kit because playing songs with yellow tom notes on a Guitar Hero drum kit becomes very awkward. However if you only own Guitar Hero games and a significant amount of DLC then I'd recommend the Guitar Hero drum kit (Band Hero is part of the Guitar Hero franchise).

Finally, if you have very little or no DLC for either franchise then I'd recommend the first option of getting an Xbox One and waiting for Rock Band 4. The first reveal of the game is coming May 15th.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I am not going to get a new console as the wii is great for my kids and I do not have any games. Just trying to work out if having a set with the symbols is better. It looks like value for money wise the hero set is best and has symbols. why does the rock band set not come with symbols ?

The Rock Band 3 drum kit does come with cymbals but the previous ones don't because cymbals weren't integrated into the games. The yellow and orange cymbals were integrated into the first Guitar Hero game with drum support (Guitar Hero World Tour) so that's why that drum kit has cymbals.

Of course it is your decision in the end, at least consider the Xbox One for Rock Band 4. Not as a replacement to the Wii but as a console for music games, most Rock Band and Guitar Hero games are actually unplayable on Wii due to the console's inability to do game updates and hence any issues present at launch will stay present forever.

thanks again but I am just looking to spend a little bit of money on drums for the kids. Are they really that bad on the wii?

Is there a free play mode where you can just play the drums if you like/

Yes, for music games I started on Wii and it was those games that led to me getting an Xbox 360 as a second console solely for Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

As for what you seem to be asking regarding a "free play" mode, it's only present in Rock Band 3 out of the currently released games.
