When I play Melee on the Wii, the c-stick (smash attacks) don't work 99.9% of the time, i.e. missed inputs (this happens A LOT)... whereas — when I play on the Gamecube — the c-stick works 100% of the time.
Does anyone else experience this? I'm not crazy, am I? Is the Wii emulating Melee or something? What could cause this hindrance on controls?
Don't know what causes it, but yes, I've had the same thing.
C-sticking in Brawl felt so natural I was sure it was in Melee, but couldn't remember for sure. So a couple years ago, I popped Melee in just for kicks and was astonished to discover that, no the C-stick wasn't in Melee. Which was crazy and seemed like an unfortunate oversight and another point in Brawl's corner (I'm more of a Brawl fan... I know, I know. )
Then, when I finally re-bought a Gamecube last year, I discovered that it's just the Wii's fault, and yes, it was as I remembered. Melee does use C-stick smashes.

i picked up the new smash controller last week and plugged it into my gamecube to test it out, started a quick smash battle, tried out all the buttons.. i was like "why isn't the c-stick working?" before laughing at myself when i realised you can't c-stick smash in melee. i'm confused as poooooooop now though, after reading the post above and doing some googling. it appears the c-stick DOESN'T work for smashes in vs mode on melee, but does everywhere else, like the camera control when paused..
